Sample Hotshots Feb Indy tasting - 2007 bottle - Aroma is smoked beef, charcoal, caramel and toffee. Pours cloudy brown with a small head and decent lacing. Flavor matches aroma with a touch of hops in the finish. Palate is sticky. I like ’em smoked and this one is a winner.

i usually rate low, so my number probably doesnt reflect how i really feel about this beer, it was really good. nice even smoke in the aroma and taste. strong, but not overpowering. thick in appearence, but fairly thin in reality, so it goes down easy. medium hoppy, nothing too strong except the smoke. the smoke is pretty strong, but if you like it, youll like this beer.

2007 Vintage. corked. caged, 750mL bottle. pours light brown, tan head. Light smoke aroma. Hints of salami. Flavors of smoke. Light bodied, clean dark lager flavor in the distant finish. Lots of smoke in a lighter bodied drinker. Lighter than a porter.

Rich but clear amber with basically no head, on tap. Smell is mildly malty and mildly smoky as well. Rich thick body with a light, but prickly carbonation. Taste is nice, pretty well balanced and nicely smoky. More smoke flavor than there is aroma. Slightly tart and bright malt flavor and the smoke presence makes it quite good, although otherwise the flavor is a tad thin. Still a very good beer.

Medium to clear brown in color with little head. Smells a hint smoky and has a bit of that funky edge to it too. Not very smoky in the flavor, but it is lightly there. Fairly thick palate - it is quite a nice mouthfeel. Not my style of choice but fairly good aside from that little glitch.

Hesitant to rate, but have had twice and both have been infected. Smells and tastes like rotten veggies. Hints of caramel in the flavor ad back tothe compost pile. Sorry is what it is.

Red/brown with big head. Aroma of smoked and sweet malt. Taste is, of course, dominated by smoke....wonderful, wonderful smoke. Bitterness comes on a little too strong, although it’s light in general terms actually; takes away from the smoke. I’d love to try this after a couple of years to mellow the finish. I love a good smoked beer, and this is another great addition to the available choices.

The Goose pours out a murked greyish yellow and sits and stirs in the glass much like muddied water. Medium capping of lightish yellowed/off-white foam sits briefly before settling to a mere whisp of a skim and a few bubbles at the edges. Minimal lacing in some spots and small strings. Aroma is all about the smoked meats baby. This goose is cooked, or smoked as it were. Big waft of smoked salmon creeps out even as its poured. Its big, bold, and loud as a goose. Hard to get much else, but its complexity of smoked stuff and strength is quite crazy. Taste is more of the same, lots of smokey flavors over what once was a lighter doppelbock of sorts. Again, mostly smoked flavors of meats, wood, and leather make the palate soak and steam with raw might. Some sweetness backs it up, but the smoke is all over the place and quite supreme. Feel is visciously full and robust with long smokey length that reaches beyond the sky in which it flies. This is a great smoked beer, it has tons of smoke, perhaps too much for some; but I liked it. Just couldn’t drink it as easily as I’d like. This smoked Goose has some bite to its honk! This would be a great dinner beer with cheese apps and/or heavy crackers.
