Left Hand Haystack Wheat

Single purchased at Rozi’s in Lakewood. Bottled on 9-14-2008. So I took this out of the fridge, turned the bottle sideways to read the date on it, then poured it. So, that may have been a mistake, the pour was slightly less than careful, and the yeast at the bottom dropped into the less than hazy yellow beer an each little droplet looked almost like male ejaculate. That made ’er a bit more clowdy, and makes it a bit more yeasty. Regardless, not a bad offering. It smells lemony, grassy, with notes of banana and yeast. Mouthfeel is rather viscous, thick and fills the mouth. The flavor has a nice yeasty (don’t know why) flavor with a slim fruity feel.

Some lingering head over a muddy, dirty blonde body. Sour lemon candy on aroma. Odd flavour. Buttery? That’s all I got, really. Caught off guard but it’s not bad. Quite different from other hefes I’ve had but still doesn’t do much to affirm my feelings for the style (unlike most weissebocks).

Very held back aroma. Taste of citrus and wheat with a weird undertone of corn. Fairly sweet but with a slightly too carbonated body making it easy to drink. Ok.

Hazy golden like a, errr, well, like a haystack with a yeast cloud swirl, and a fizzy yet fluffy head. Zesty lemon and banana bread aroma. Mild and crisp bitterness, a touch of tartness through the finish. High carbonation helps keep it light and refreshing. Not over the top with some of the typical wheat beer flavors, which in my opinion, helps its drinkability.

Crushed with Carythedude and jakebra at the brewery. Smells wheaty. Typically wheat ale. Flavor is the same. Basically a typical, boring wheat ale.

Crushed with Jakebra and Honkeybra on tap at the brewery. Nice nose, Wheaty, lemony, a little banana. Excellent cloudy appearance. Flavor is a little sour. Not offensive. Drinkable, but in no way incredibly good.

Poured fizzy dark yellow, cloudy with a two finger head. The aroma was spicy, with fruit and corriander notes. The flavor was dominantly yeast spiciness with corriander, peppery and banana notes. This is about what you would expect for a wheat beer of this style. There was nothing too exciting. It was fairly solid and the esters were subdued which helped bring out the spiciness. Pretty good.

Poured a clear golden with a white head. Lemon, banana, and cloves in the aroma. The flavor was banana and grass with a light malt background. Light body. Not my favorite.
