Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

High alcohol. You wouldn’t know it from the taste though. Nice. This one was well done.

"Big dark pour but not opague and not solid black. Very little aroma, probably due to my stuffy nose. No head. Taste is big black and terrible, on style burned alky. If there is any carbonation, I can’t detect it because of the over the top flavors. Finish borders on rude strong ale. Unfriendly and too much. Imperial stout charred wood alky linger. "

12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with small tan head, light lace. Aroma of roasted, bitter malt, coffee, molases. Taste is malty and bitter, light booze. Body is full, carbonation light, and finish is smooth. Overall, a decent imperial.

Milk chocolate, coffee, toast and a hint of whiskey make for a very inviting aroma. Rich black pour, vanishing thin head and decent lacing. After a while the beer looks fairly "flat". Velvety and creamy with a medium thickness. Sweet then strongly bitter with a high alcohol presence. Big chocolate flavor and a hint of vanilla. Nutty along with some burnt malt and peat. A taste of whiskey coupled by some strong evergreen hops stand out in the aftertaste. This is good...just not great.

Bottle pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Aroma is nice. Chocolate, roasty malts, molasses, and some coffee. The aromas lead into the same flavors with a silky smooth mouthfeel. Overall a really nice. I’d buy this again.

Reviewed 1/6/2009 (bottle): Very active pour, big fizzy brown head with big bubbles, but somewhat diminishing. Very dark body, hard to see through. Dark fruity aroma, some coffee and dark chocolate. Somewhat effervescent nose. Something else in the nose too..but I can’t put my finger on it. I think it’s almost like a milk stout aroma. Dark fruity taste, some hotness. Dark chocolate, and roasted coffee. Sweet cloying aftertaste, but not overwhelming. Very hot taste, almost whiskey-like. Whiskey like palate, low viscosity. Hoppiness in the taste, somewhat tempering. Too much for me, I’m not a hard liquor fan.
