Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

Nov 22, 2008. Bottle. Pours very dark brown, with a thin tan head, good lacing. Smells of coffee grounds and toffee, just a hint of molasses. Velvety smooth, medium body, somewhat thin for the style. Tastes like coffee and dark chocolate, but not too sweet. Drinkable and well balanced.

Very disappointing to me. Way too thin for a good impy. This affected the color of the pour and made in a dark brown. Very chocolaty with little else to offer. Maybe a hint of roasted malt is present. The hops never really made a good appearance.

Poured from a 22oz bottle and served in a snifter. This stout poured an intense dark brown with a thick head of creamy foam that slowly faded away. A heavy coat of solid lacing was left around the glass. The aroma included smoothly roasted malts, chocolate, cookie, and some faint citric hops. The flavor was unfavorably dominated by chocoalte syrup. Definately on the sweet side. Pretty one-dimensional. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and sticky. Lightly carbonated. This brew could definately use some more roast or bittering hops to add some depth and balance.

Poured from bomber, extremely dark ruby red/black cherry currant color, aroma of alcohol chocolates, hops, malts, and roasted malts. Flavour of much of the same, alcohol burn come through to slap one in the nads. Perhaps they added some nail cleaner to this in the end. Disappointment from Left Hand.

This is a Very Good RIP. It has just the right sweetness with smooth chocolatey/express like flavors. It is a fairly BIG beer at 10% ABV. The Left Hand oak aged ( wine barrels) RIP is slightly better, but this stuff will do! If you see this beer buy it- you won’t be sorry. I just picked up 10 750 ml ( wine)bottles at $6.30 per bottle- a downright steal at that price!

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown/black. with no head or lacing to speak of. Aromas of some roasted malts, coffe, vanilla and some alcohol heat. Flavors are about the same as the aromas, with the addition of toffee and some ...honey? Very similar to left hands milk stout, just not as sweet and more heat.

Sampled at the stout tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 10/13/08. Pours darkest brown with a 1/2 inch head. Aroma is malty and sweet with some alcohol. Flavor is less than impressive. Very astringent. I love the boozy beers, but this one is more rubbing alcohol than anything.

Bottle. Pours black with little head. Flavor is dry and sharp with coffee and alcohol notes. Surprisingly astringent because of the hops. Leaves your mouth kind of sticky and dry.
