Nice roasty body hints of chocolate and a bite of alcohol. Sharp roasty bitter note at the end of each whiff. Each sip is smooth bodied heavily roasted that stays creamy on the tongue then bitter roast bites underneath. The back is a throat full of hops that dominate the palate. Very nice impy stout, would love to try to oak aged version, alcohol is well hidden. Borresteijn (1441), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2008 Bottle from De Bierkoning. Pours deep brown/black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, sugar, dark fruits. Flavour is sweet, roasted malts, some coffee, a bit of dark fruits and chocolate. Bitter hoppy and coffee finish with some sticky sugar. Creamy thick oily mouthfeel, low carbonation, alcohol well hidden. Could have been a bit less sweet, nevertheless highly enjoyable. hughie (3082), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2008 Very dark brown with a brown head. Aroma has sweet burnt sugar and crystallised fruit from long forgotten Christmases. Sweet leathery malt taste with some ash and alcohol and a sharp bitterness. A lovely plummy mixture of delights. I found this a very accessible imperial stout, which a first-timer would enjoy. Chrism86 (283), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 17, 2008 Updated: May 23, 2009Pours jet black with dark tan coloured head that seems to rise from nothing. Nose displays milky coffee, dark chocolate, liquorice and slight brandied characters. Palate is complex. Quite significant hop presence. Coffee and liquorice notes are evident early before aggresive spicy hops and dark malt balance eachother out well. Finishes with slight sweet malt/brandied characters before hops chime in late to cleanse the palate. Alcohol hidden quite well. bleeng (600), Spring near Beersel, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 15, 2008 On tap at The Dig, Cedar Park, TX. Nitro. Black pour with just a hint of light shining through. Creamy white head. Nose is a bit milky, the alcohol is hidden, not much roastiness or malt. Taste is alcoholic (where did that come from?), sweet, chewy. A bit too sweet and alcoholic for me. IlanMan (850), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Bottle: Thanks to Keith for this brew. Pour was surprisingly light for an imperial stout. Aroma was strong with roasted barley and chocolate. More chocolate over-powered the flavor along with some nuts and alcohol. Pretty decent brew but not so much to style. Away from style, it’s drinkable and tasty. Would drink again. blutt59 (2172), Dallas, Texas, USA
