Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

12 oz Bottle@Bishop’s Arms, Järntorget, Göteborg. Dense tan head fading to ring od foam clinging to the glass. Near black body with good clarity. A nice scent of dark, sweet chocolate, roast and coffee at first, followed by an inviting smell of ripe berries and alcohol-soaked dark dried fruits. Bitter chocolate, toasted dark malts and more dark dried fruits in the flavor. Thick mouthfeel. Malt-sweetness and a fine lingering bitterness in the finish.

Bottle, 12oz, at Bishops Arms Järntorget, Gothenburg. A very dark brown, almost black beer, clear-looking, with a quite small beige to tan head diminishing rather quickly. Mocha, sweetness, dark chocolate, some meaty roastyness, a tiny bonfire note and something fruity/berry-like in the aroma. The flavor is sugary sweet with alcohol, lots of dark chocolate, coffee and a little fruityness. Warming, full-bodied and sticky mouthfeel. Long, sweet finish with chocolate and coffee. A quite lovely beer, but I find it to be a bit on the sweet side, even for my sweet tooth. (080710)

Fresh growler in the Left Hand Big Mo’ sniffer. Pours black rather thin with a small tan head. Molassas, coffee and alcohol nose. Balanced coffee / hops / alcohol taste with aq really nice palate. Best beer at the tasting room right now!

Is not overwhelmed by alcohol as Great Divide’s, but still... As session as a stout can be and in the process getting tipsy.

(0.335 l bottle at Tuulensuu, Tampere, on 2008-07-26) Dark reddish brown. No head to speak of. Coffee, chocolate and alcohol in nose. Full-bodied palate with little carbonation. Coffee, dark bitter chocolate, bitterness, liquorice and hint of fruitiness in taste. Good imperial stout even though its colour and lack of head made expect something bad.

Not sure I understand the complex and varied descriptions given by others, but I like this beer. Rich, mildly sweet, with a hint of smoke. If I ask "what do you like?", and she answers " the darker the better.", this is what I’ll serve.

Dark brown with a grey head. Strong aroma of coffee, oil and dark chocolate. Nice bitterness in the flavours that are full of coffee, liquorice and alchol. The palate however is a bit weak with a medium-body and a thin texture.

12 oz. into sniffer. Near black pour that looked thin coming out of the bottle. Not much for a head, and it fades fast and is a dirty light white color. Aroma of chocolate, hops, vanilla, molasses, raisins, and booze. Flavor is pretty chocolaty with some nice smooth vanilla notes that are balanced out by some nice bitter hop notes and an alcohol warmth on the finish. Pretty thin on the palate - medium bodied - for the style, but still smooth with soft carbonation. Overall: good brew, not extremely unique but definitely solid.
