Medium creamy head. Restrained chocolate aroma, mild roast, vaguely creamy. Sharp tannic huskiness right from the get go, followed by a bittersweet chocolate middle and more astringency at the finish. There also is a rich somewhat roasty espresso like twang throughout, but is more pronounced in the lingering aftertaste. This is the best part of the beer. basewars (145), Albany, New York, USA

I really enjoyed it. MadIndian (997), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA

Sweet aroma with roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. Fairly sweet flavor with hard roasted malt, coffee and dark bitter chocolate. They seem either overly complex or overly simple. There’s no middle ground. On the other hand, it’s easily available. Given a choice, I’d drink something else. tmoreau (600), Lombard, Illinois, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 11, 2008 From the bottle and goblet served at Lunar Brewing. Pours a dark mahogany, small, light tan head with a smooth roasted aroma. Taste is even more ambitious with rich coffee and cocoa. Sweet malt, but not too sweet and obvious alcohol content. Very consistent to the bottom of the glass. Would recommend highly. Oakes (8142), Kowloon, Hong Kong
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 10, 2008 There’s a reddish accent to the dark brown body. The aroma is fudgey with cocoa accents. Very fudgey on the palate with its brownie-like body and chocolatey taste. Fairly mellow and slightly sugary interpretation of the style. Not very imperial - lacks roast, hop and fruit, but it’s a fairly pleasant stout.
