Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

I had this over a year ago and am now entering my rating. Looking at the others I was suproised. Black in color with an ok head. Malts and some roastiness in the aroma. Coffee in the taste, seems to be missing something. Did not enjoy that much.

Black; small lingering amber head. Chocolate malt, molassas, and espresso aroma. Strong, sweet stout, but easy to drink and very flavorful. Quite sweet with some powder sugar, honey, amber malt. Was on tap at PP Carlsbad...I’d like another please!

Roasty. Coffee taste. Pours nice and black. A good Imperial Stout even if it is not among the best I’ve had.

Dark brown/black with little head, some cobweby capping. Aroma of earth and java. Silky smooth palate, soft carbonation. Rich dessert-like flavors, rounded, smooth, and sweetish. Alcohol in finish but exceptionally smooth. Nice!
Re-rate. More cocoa came out this time, and predominated the experience. Down from a 4.0 after being recalibrated, but still enjoyed it a lot and savored it.

Liked ’er. Very excellent aroma of hazelnut and sunflowerseeds. Beautiful. The beer is EXTREMELY light for an IS. It’s borderline brown ale color. This is the nuttiest IS I’ve ever had, it really tastes exactly like salty sunflowerseeds. That’s a great thing too by the way. It’s like salty choco-nuts. Really different and really great. I’m loving this beer the more I drink it. Think of pouring nesquick powder over a salted peanut shell and licking it off and you have he essence of this beer. Wow, I’ve really never had anything like this.

It’s a nearly opaque black with a pleasantly creamy head. The aroma is nice roasted malts with a sweet chocolate presence. The flavor starts off chocolaty and finishes with a surprising hops presence. Not much of an alcohol bite either. The mouthfeel is nice and thick as one would expect for an imperial stout. The only strong downside to the beer really is that it takes on this medicine-like kick at times in the flavor.

Aroma: Fairly hoppy. Nice chocolately smell, but there is some sweetness mixed w/ dark fruits, which is not so nice-astringent. Flavor is a bit astringent, otherwise it may be 9 worthy. Starts chocolaty and roasty, and finishes with some semi-dark fruit, but then the a nice burnt malt & chocolate character returns. Palate is silky and full. Borderline sticky, but still very nice. Finishes with a hint of warming alcohol. Lots of hops in the palate. Can’t tell if this would do well with some age or if the hops are covering up something, like the astringency.
