Rich aroma of coffe and chocolate, some fruity hops, and of course the deep roasted grains. The flavor starts with a sweet chocolate character but the fine hop and the roasted malt with taste of coffee and cocoa bring over my palate: it is a great stout... milewide (624), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 28, 2009 Too sweet! Like drinking a carmel sundae. No burnt malt or hop bitterness. Not as opaque as many RIS. A complete disappointment. carlb (37), East Lansing, Michigan, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 14, 2009 Pours like a full-bodied ale: Slow and dense with a gradually forming three-finger, creamy, tan head. The stout is totally black; my light source cannot penetrate it! My anticipation is rising! The nose suggests dark chocolate, toasted bread, coffee. Medium-full on the palate with extensive lingering and a few medicinal, licorice, notes down the center. It appears to be sweet and dry, but that is likely the hops helping clear the sweet and toasty notes. The hops are not evident in the nose but show up on the palate. Warmth from the alcohol - It is an Imperial! The carbonation is medium-light and very pleasant. Nice Belgian lace. Very smooth and moreish; tempting to drink too much - too soon, given the 10.4% ABV. A sweet nose of toasted nuts, roasted malt and chocolates. A sweet cocoa flavor, some light hops, chocolate and milky sweet flavors, sort of dry almost. Light coffee. Nice. tokyogoat (586), San Diego, California, USA

Nose was of burnt coffee and lube.
Taste was kind of a bad imperial stout cliche. Roasted barley + black patent + low fermentable grain = imperial stout. Boring. JK (2967), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2009 ABR, 2009. Black. Lots of overly roasted malt and grain. Burnt popcorn in the flavor. Thick palate and smooth, but they went a little far on the roast. Moderate hop presence, a lot for the style, but the roasted character overpowers. Lagunitasfan (480), San Diego, California, USA
