Chocolate and coffee in the aroma with some dried fruit showing up late. Smooth taste with some upfront roasty bitterness, warming alcohol, liquorice notes but a tad heavy in the body if you are a hurry to drink it. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA

Saw it was pretty cheap at our BP and that it was also 10.4% so I thought I would give it a try and Im so glad I did. Sweet aroma, black as oil, and tastes great with an after taste of coffee. CHECK THIS ONE OUT! Collint (465), Sylva, North Carolina, USA

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Aroma is a sweet scent with roasted tones and hint of fig. Color is black with a slight purple coming though in the light. Carbonation is mellow, producing a thin tight head. Taste is sweet and rich. Starting with a full body it goes down sweet with a sharp feel. Finish comes on with a rich sweetness that is full of molasses and dried fruit then a mild roasted taste and a bold alcohol taste. This alcohol taste seems to build in the after taste. Overall I think its too sweet but what kills it is the alcohol taste is way to strong. The only reason my score for this beer is this high is because of the aroma and appearance are very good. Magicdave6 (5559), London, Greater London, England

I actually opened this by accident thinkling it was the backjack porter. Pours thinner than expectd a dark shade of brown. Aroma is bursting with alcohol, packed with roasty malts and really overly sweet candy sugar, terrible. Taste is worce hot alcohol, molasses sweetness, roasty bitterness. Achh i couldnt face it after half the glass and poured the rest down the drain. Light brown head. Intense aroma of dried fruit, chocolate, and alcohol. Thick and lasting mouthfeel. Taste is heavy with chocolate. This is a delicious Imperial Stout and it ranks with the best of them, but not quite at the top. I’ll be reaching for this one more and more. Angeloregon (2036), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 12, 2007 Poured from a 22oz. bottle purchased at By The Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Deep dark black and slightly ruby red, opaque body with a miniscule, soapy off-white head. Smooth and dry mouth feel and finish. Sweet, dark fruitiness, and slightly medicinal. Alcohol well hidden behind complex flavors. This is a nice sipping beer that would probably pair well with your favorite cigar. Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 10, 2007 Wow, does this baby pack a punch! Everything I look for in an Imperial here.
Not quite black on the pour, but a very dark, dark ruby-brown. Not much of a head and no lacing.
Very intense, dark, rich smell. Very prevalent coffee, chocolate, raisin, dark fruit overtones here. Smell the alcohol too. This smells supercharged.
Tastes exactly like it smells. This isn’t for the every day beer drinker looking to step out from their comfort zone. My wife generally likes a lot of the darker stuff that I keep around but after a few sips of this, she quit on me. I didn’t mind, more for me.
More of a fruity overtone than I have experienced in a lot of Imperials. I wonder if I might have left this alone for another year or two. Pretty hot going down, you can definitely taste the alcohol but that’s kind of what I’m looking for in an Impy.
Not the best I’ve ever had of the class, but this is a damn good one. Strong, dark, full of alcohol, rich..... I’m happy with this.
