Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

Pours deep mahogany with almost no head. Heavily alcoholic aroma with roasted malt, currants, and tobacco. Sweet, smooth taste of chocolate malt, licorice, cascade-like hops, and an alcohol burn. The one weakness is the alcohol is not masked very well and comes out strong in the end.

18 NOV 07. Bottled on:061307. ::12oz bottle. Pours dark black, dark-khaki colored head. Aroma is of fresh fennel, sweet malt. Slightly roasty. Mostly sweet licorice. Flavor is highly bitter. Tastes of coffee, green west coast hops, roasted (burnt) grains. heavy bodied. Thick and creamy on the palate. If this is high alcohol...it is well hidden.

Virtually no head, good color. Grassy taste with strong roast flavor. Finish is a little lacking. The smoothest Imperial Stout in my ratings. The alcohol is covered very well.

Poured into my Chimay Goblet, very thick and dark black, with a nice i finger head that diminishes into a nice ring! lacing was tight and dense! smell of coffee and Chocolate malts, very nice aroma! Taste was coffee cocoa roasted malts with a nice lightly bitter finish! alot of RIS’s that i have had were very very bold big and strong almost to much for a full bottle! but this was the most drinkable RIS that i have had although not as complex as some very very drinkable!

12 oz. bottle. excellent imperial stout. pours a light black out of the bottle with minimal head. this is the one area that could be improved. wonderful aromas of malts, coffee and licorice. medium body, with very little carbonation. strong flavors of licorice and coffee. great finish that lingers well after the last sip. warming alcohol presence is enjoyable as well.

Bottle. Deep black with dark brown head. Smells of chocolate and roasted coffee. Flavor is tart and smooth with prominent a chocolate characteristic. Great beer and the alcohol is not a distraction.

Pours a dark brown, opaque color into the snifter. There was a small light beige head and a small ring of lace. I was surprised at the lack of a thick dark head. It was much more subdued that other Imperial Stouts. A faint hint of chocolate, coffee, barley and roasted nuts. Tastes of the same, but not as complex. Very smooth, I was surprised that this was over 10% ABV.
