Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

Aroma with lots of roasted, chocolate malts, raisins and other dried fruits. Quite complex and lovely. Clear, brown-black coloured with a thin, brown, medium head. Not as slick to the glass as other imperial stouts. Taste is sweet, creamy, with a bitter background. Chocolate roasted malts, dried fruits, some caramel in it. Sticky palate. Quite full, however a bit alcoholic and sharp finish.

Brown/black with a red hue and a creamy head. The aroma has sweetness, licorice, coffee and the flavour has notes of sweet coffee, sweet licorice, dried fruits like raisin (giving a vinous touch), caramel and a nice bitterness. It’s very nice! 2384

Pours a dark black colr with a small off white rim. Smells of cheap soy sauce. Mouthfeel is velvety and tastes of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Pretty good, this is what imp stouts are all about.

(Bottle at Bishops Arms Västra Hamngatan, Göteborg) Clear copper color, white head. Soapy, flowery, citrus hoppy scent. Hoppy bitter taste with a touch of roasted malts. Smooth mouthfeel, medium high bitterness. Roasted aftertaste.

Brown-black body topped by a very small tan head. Typical imperial stouts flavours of roastiness, chocolate and coffee beans although the coffee is a little less present in this one. Very roasted. Some woody (dry nut?) notes as well. Limited hops presence. As usual with non-watery imperial stouts the alcohol was somewhat well hidden. Doesn’t bring anything new to this crowded genre. As far as American imperial stouts are concerned this is at best an average, if not slightly below average. Despite that it is still a very good beer. Because if there are two things that American really know how to make it’s greasy burgers and heavy imperial stouts. And it shows.

Regardless of the season, it’s always a good time for an Imperial Stout and this is a good one! Color was not as dark as I’ve seen poured with a nice opaque brown, but the aroma is the true introduction. A sudden rush of roast, chocolates, nuts and raisins is a nice welcome. No way this is 10.4% abv. Taste is a bitter sweet version of the aroma with a soft, warming finish. One of my new favorites.
