Commercial Description:
Imperial Stout is a silky smooth, very flavorful black brew. It is a traditional style of strong stout originally brewed in Britain for export to St. Petersburg, Russia. The malty sweetness of the beer is tempered by a medley of roasted malt and the aggressive use of hops. A long conditioning time gives the brew time to mellow and mature. The beer is not filtered, allowing every subtlety and nuance to be enjoyed.

Poured black with a thin, sparse, light brown head. Chocolate, cocoa, and malt aromas, with a whiff of tobacco. Medium-bodied. Taste is dry, with some hop background and a lot of cocoa bitterness in the finish. Not bad.

Dark brown almost black color. Malt and chocolate aroma with strong alcohol presence. Toasted malt and a touch of coffee. The alcohol was not well controlled and made what could have been a great beer into just above average.

(Bottled) Very dark ruby-brown color with almost no head. Strongly malty aroma with lots of licorice and smooth, pleasant, aromatic hops in the background. Strongly hoppy, pretty roasty-licoricey flavor with smooth, but evident alcohol presence. Slicky, velvety smooth palate with low carbonation and a sticky finish. A very nice, smooth and balanced brew - like Val-Dieu Winter, but in an Impy style. The malt profile reminds me somewhat of St.Bernardus Abt. Actually, Id say this is pretty true to the original style, with not-so-overwhelming hoppiness. Very balanced and enjoyable.

Bottle. Pours black. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Taste is intitially light roasted malt with hint of chocolate. Then alcohol, though warm, suddenly overpowers the senses. Palate is too overwhelmed with the alcohol taste. Wasn’t happy with this one.

Bottle. Sweet dark chocolate nose, mellow with roasted notes and lots of malt. Deep, near-opaque red body with a short, vanished brown head and legs. Taste is loads of dark chocolate with light roast. Alcohol, though not really tasted as such, is very warming and adds considerable heft. Check that, alcohol can be tasted, but it still adds a luscious body and warmth. Very full-bodied, restrained sweetness dries out, light bitterness and light saltiness. Roast is just delicious. Rich and robust, bursting with flavor. Just loads of malt, with light hops toward the end. I’d have no qualms about handing over a 4.5, but I’d like to re-rate first - a drained 10.4% bomber usually leads to generous scores.

Strong berry, alcohol in the aroma. Red wine, nice roughness there. Dark red/black with a small head. Very nice, strong malty taste with raisins, prunes and cocoa. Niiice finish.

I don’t think I’ve every had a strong flavor stout with high amount of Chocolate. the flavor is mocha in its taste and smell. The aroma has a very high concentration of Alcohol and the taste over power you with its chocolate goodness.
