Didn’t have the viscous pour I was hoping for. Didn’t have the chocolate head either. The head actually faded away too quickly. I expected more in terms in of looks from this, considering the barrel-aged version is one of my favorite imperial stouts! Sweet malt, and chocolate aroma. Chocolate aroma is the biggest contributor to smell. Nice pungent aroma. Nice creamy palate. I didn’t think it was going to be this creamy. Nice roast flavor. Not much coffee or chocolate in the flavor. This beer could be a bit more bolder in terms of flavor, if you ask me. The taste isn’t very explosive, or bitter; just a mild roast and chocolate flavor. Overrated if you ask me, I lover the barrel version better. Not a horrible imperial stout, but didn’t meet my expectations. smcolw (366), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 11, 2009 Impressive four-finger head with lots of spotty/chunky lace. Near black color where no light passes through.
Milky aroma with a touch of mocha.
Creamy, black patent flavor. The alcohol is obvious but not over stated. Firm body with good carbonation. The aftertaste is similar to a strong alcoholic drink, i.e. warm with brandy elements. Lots of coffee in the aftertaste. Very pleasant. Archibaldo de la Cruz (412), Finland

Roasted flavour with some bitterness and sweetness, chocolate, liquorice and a hint of coffee. Good IS, quite smooth. Finwe (66), Grankulla, Finland
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2009 355 ml bottle. Dark reddish brown colour reminiscent of a cola drink. Smallish beige head. Aroma resembles that of really dark chocolate. The falvour includes notes of chocolate, some sweetness and a hint of alcohol. Some bitter dryness in the end. Good, but not one of the most impressing Imperial Stouts. GranvilleTim (518), Granville, Illinois, USA

Nice aroma of roasted malt comes out as you pour. Notes of sweet cocoa, some chocolate. Nice taste- roasted malt, sweetness, cocoa, little dry at the end. Alcohol becomes more noticeable as it warms up. DJMonarch (6878), Northwich, Cheshire, England

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jun 26, 2009 A solid stout. Solid black in color, fleeting creamy head (very thin for me). Roasted malt aroma w/ chocolate subtleties. Heavy drink, but well worth a try. I’m still more of a porter man though.
