Commercial Description:
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Dark pour, decent head, very sweet. Better mouthfeel than many of its brethren. For fans of the genre, an excellent beer.

Bottle. Black with off white head. Distinct sweet smell followed by the same taste. Good beer.

On Draft at Rattle and Hummer in NYC. Incredible milk stout. Pours a dark dark body. Aroma is sweet. Taste is sweet and great.

Bottle. Pours black and yields a thin head. Aroma is a bit stinky. I found this stout a bit dull. It lacks body and palate.

From the tap poured dark brown with a very small head. Nice sweet malty flavor with a quick finish.

Sampled on tap at Rattle n Hum. I thought this was a really good milk stout.. well above average for the style. Poured very dark. Malty tones - some chocolate and maybe some licorice, but smooth cream feel. No alc noticable.

12oz bottle dated Feb 2009. I think I have only had one other milk stout before so do not have much of a reference point to go with. For a stout overall it is somewhat bland but it does taste very similar to the other milk stout I am familiar with. It is good though just nowhere near as good as many of the non milk stouts I have enjoyed over the years.

Pours near black with a gray-tan head. Aroma has ash and semisweet chocolate primarily, along with some faint licorice. Palate is smooth, with flavors of brown sugar, malt, and charcoal. Finishes with some bold roasts, nuts, and bitterness, not sweet at all. Some plastic astringency in the finish brings this otherwise solid beer down just a notch.
