Commercial Description:
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Pours a great dark brown with unsustainable dark tan head. Nose of molassis, a hint of alcohol, dark roast. Flavor reminds me of kahlua a little bit. Coffee, lactose, anise. Very impressed. I don’t usually care for this style, but this was not bad

Black color with creamy yet disappearing beige head which leaves some light lacing on the inside of the glass. Rich aroma with cocoaliquor and a light touch of roasted malt. Creamy, milky flavor with chocolate and hints of coffe. Wellbalanced and smooth bitterness in the finish.

Bottle @ The Rake, London.
Pours almost black with slight red edges. A great, creamy, light-beige head on top. Powerful aroma, good milky chocolate, almonds, roasted malts and a little coffee. Fine, lightly creamy mouthfeel. Sweet flavour, lots of milky chocolate and softly roasted malts. A fine, balanced dryness in the finish. Truly a very drinkable beer.

Creamy, roasted, chocolate, a hint of coffee in the end. Quite mild yet pleasant, could be a bit heavier on the body.

Very dark brown. Sweet taste with woodsmoke and composty vegetal notes, very autumnal and curiously nostalgic. Sour milk taste with some ash, liquorice and sugar. Some residual dryness, but the overall effect is intensely comforting and delicious.

Coffee, toffee, touch of Irish cream. Very smooth, not a whole lot of carbonation (as to be expected). Great malt, and almost creamy palate. In the end, a little too sweet for me though.
