Sweet taste with woodsmoke and composty vegetal notes, very autumnal and curiously nostalgic. Sour milk taste with some ash, liquorice and sugar. Some residual dryness, but the overall effect is intensely comforting and delicious. cbkschubert (2005), Cochise Co., Arizona, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 29, 2008 Coffee, toffee, touch of Irish cream. Very smooth, not a whole lot of carbonation (as to be expected). Great malt, and almost creamy palate. In the end, a little too sweet for me though. ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2008 Well rounded aroma reminiscent of Irish liqueur, milk chocolate, toffee’d pecans and a little aniseed and tar. Black as black, and opaque. Very, very fine bubbles weave up the side of the glass. The head is tight and compact, a pad of tannish cream that holds unrelenting for the length and leaves a fine lace. Nice, mellow, pasty smooth palate. Body is full and some well rounded flavours build it up nicely. Rich milk chocolate, a hit of raisins, bitter roasted coffee beans and Kopiko candies. Very robust malt flavours, all well melded and balanced. The swallow is malty bitter, the length is impressive, smooth and malty with a hint of burnt caramel. This is a very nice stout.
