Commercial Description:
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Bottle. Sweet milk chocolate nose. Very dark, low head. Chocolate, .ight cofee, restrained milk acid, roast, a bit salt, enough hops in the finish - quite delicious mix. Medium, creamy body. Mhh, my kind of beer.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a creamy light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt and strong chocolate and coffee and extremely sweet. Flavor starts out very sweet and rich like chocolate milk, but gets a little more bitter in the finish, which creates a nice contrast, like moving from milk chocolate to bitter chocolate. Medium-full body, and a nice creamy mouth feel. Definitely Left Hand’s best beer, and a really enjoyable stout. Bonus: It went really well with a glass of whiskey :)

Bottle. Pour dark chocolate brown with a small beige thin lacing head. Smell roasty chocolate notes with hints of caramel and coffee. Taste bittersweet with coffee and chocolate lingering.

A good beer, though not the finest milk stout I’ve tasted. You can’t go wrong with this, but there is better, perhaps for the same price. The taste was strong and slightly hoppy without being bitter.
