Commercial Description:
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

bottle: pours dark, thin beige head. Huge arouma of chocolate mild and rich coffee and cream. Taste is similar, but not as full. Creamy and delicious, lightly hopped.

12 oz bottle. When I had this at the brewery a couple years ago, I was completely blown away. I thought it was one of the best stouts ever. Now, in the bottle, it’s merely great rather than extraordinary. Aroma is quite spicy. Tastes like a very good stout.

Dark black with red-brown at the edge and a creamy foamy head. The first whiff is like chocolate milk. This is good because I consider myself a chocolate milk connoisseur. The taste follows suit and is creamy milky, some chocolate, excellent. This is right up there with the Duck Rabbit milk stout which is the first milk stout I actually really enjoyed. Drinkability was good for the one pint I had but I could not see drinking one more, a bomber would be perfect. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 09-17-2007 15:12:11

Oh boy does this have a history for me. I first tried this before I was into beer, and I could barely choke it down. I later chugged an entire pint for a friend on an Old Chicago mini-tour. These days, I love this stuff! It’s like drinking a delicious caramel cappuccino in beer form... awesome!

Good not great..I am a fan of sweet stouts so I was very anxious to try this. A bit thin but drinkability is great.

Opaque. Black. Thin head. Roasty armoa for the most part, with some stale water notes as well. Big but not too big malty/roasty flavors dominate. Somewhat on the dry side for a sweet stout. Finish isn’t as long as expected, and the body is a little thin for a stout. Worth a try, maybe even a good everyday stout in winter months if you’re not in the mood for a strong ale.

33cl bottle. Poured an unclear, deep ruby colour with a generous, foamy tan head that was slow to dissipate leaving a layer encircling the glass. Sweet, plummy, chocolately flavours combine with roasted malts and a coffee on the nose. Dominant notes of choclate and coffee flavours with a slightly perfumey backdrop. A roasty, bitter dryness in the finish, which is of average length. Solid, smooth mouthfeel, good carbonation but the overall body of the beer might be a bit lacking in terms of dimension.

I got this 12 oz bottle at Legal Seafoods in Boston at Copley Plaza. Poured a cloudy brown with a moderate sized tan head and good lacing rings. Nose is of roasted malts with chocolate, coffee, and raisins. Mouthfeel is robust but still smooth. Flavor is chocolate in the main, with some coffee notes. Finish is dry and lightly bitter.
