Commercial Description:
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Attractive, rich sweet stout with very little aroma but a smooth sweet chocolate punch hits the taster on the first sip and allows them a very pleasant ride all the way to the bottom of the pint class. Give this one a try.

Nearly opaque black with a small, foamy tan head. Sweet aroma with roasted coffee malt as well. Milky sweet flavor with a load of dark roasted malt that balances it out. Full bodied and very creamy on the palate. Unique and very satisfying.

Bottle shared with blankboy - courtesy of tupalev. Reddish-black with a small tan head Aroma of roasted malt with a slight sour milk note. Medium bodied. Flavour is fairly lactic, with some roasted coffee & malt, an interesting sweet/sour contrast, and a moderately dry finish. A pleasant stout with an interesting character.

Very sweet notes in the nose, sort of like melted ice milk from Dairy Queen. Pour is a pretty damn solid deep brown with little light sneaking through. Thin mottled tan head rests on surface. Wonderful sweet milk aroma meshes with some roast notes. Super flavorful sip...definitely some roasted barley which leaves burnt/ashy taste in back of mouth, but front of flavor is sweet and rich. Good mouthfeel. Bitter/sweet balance is hard to comprehend, but it exists. Very unique stout.

12oz bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown to black with a thick and frothy tan head that settles slowly. Aroma is sweet malt, caramel, coffee, chocolate. Taste is sweet coffee, chocolate, cream, caramel, and vanilla bean. Medium to heavy-bodied with a satisfying bitter coffee finish.

Purchased in Sweden from Systembolaget in Visby. Can’t believe I had to leave the continent to catch this. Pours a dark opaque brown with a dark tan head, roughly 1 cm. Smells of a freshly started pot of coffee in the morning, with notes of breakfast cereal, and a recently doused campfire. I’m serious. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy with medium carbonation. The taste is coffee, unsweetened cocoa, and a touch of burnt chocolate chip cookie. A dab of honey appears after warming a bit. The aftertaste is chalky and bitter, leaving a dry, parched tongue. A great beer. I’d definitely have it again.
