Commercial Description:
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

355 mL.Shared with SpencerDB. Pours a deep ruby with a two-three finger tan, rocky head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma is roast, semisweet chocolate, cheap coffee. Taste is a bit carboardy, lots of bitter chocolate, roasty. Nothing to write home about. A bit of an oily mouthfeel but still light-bodied overall.

From an old rating note: 12oz bottle. dark brown pour with a foamy light tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma and heavy on the chocolate in the taste. clean dry light bitter finish. slick texture.

Bottle. 12 oz. Split with Vinny. Pours sugary toffee hazy brown with a thin, yet rich tan head. Aroma of oats, cream, toffee, barley, roasted malts, and cinnamon. Medium, milkshake-like body with a creamy, thick body. NIce finish. Decent stout.

Smooth, dark, creamy, sweet and tasty with a nice burnt malt / coffee flavor to the finish as the most outstanding feature. Rather light int he mouth which is OK. Not as memorable as others but a fine brew.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark hazy brown color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, brown sugar with a creamy note and a very light roast. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, cream, leafy bitter hops in the finish. Medium bodied. Smooth and creamy. Good beer... one of my favorites from Left Hand.

12oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a bit of a chestnut hue, capped with a modest sized tan head. Aroma is on the sweet side, with notes of cocoa powder, malted milk, and coffee in the background. Cocoa and roasted chocolate malt hit the palate first, and are joined by bakers chocolate towards the finish. Bittersweet chocolate clings to the palate for a length finish. Silky smooth mouthfeel makes this really easy to drink. Nice stout.

A: Dark black in color with a nice khaki head. Minimal lacing left behind. S: Nice aroma of toasted malt, coffee and milk chocolate. T: Very nice. I love a good milk stout, and this one is just that. It is a well crafted stout with hints of hot cocoa. M: Smooth and creamy.

This is pretty drinkable. I’ve always had trouble with the darker beers with strong flavor. The flavor is smooth here though. A little carbonation, but not too bad. I taste a nice malty tone without being dominant.

I’m a big fan of this beer, it’s a great stout with nice coffee aromas and flavors. Just a little bit of sweetness.
