Commercial Description:
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

12 oz. bottle. Pour at first appears black, but held to bright light is actually exceptionally deep ruby. Short creamy tan head subsides to a thin ring as it warms. Aroma is of chocolate and deep roasted malts. Taste is more of same, with roasty edge softened by the sweet lactose. Body is moderate and palate smooth. A fine cream stout.

Bottle. Dark hazy brown color with a thin tan head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee. Creamy mouth feel, mild and easy to drink. Aftertaste reminded of hot chocolate but with roasted tones. A nice stout, although sweet.

Bottle. 12 oz. Split with Vinny. Pours sugary toffee hazy brown with a thin, yet rich tan head. Aroma of oats, cream, toffee, barley, roasted malts, and cinnamon. Medium, milkshake-like body with a creamy, thick body. NIce finish. Decent stout.

Smooth, dark, creamy, sweet and tasty with a nice burnt malt / coffee flavor to the finish as the most outstanding feature. Rather light int he mouth which is OK. Not as memorable as others but a fine brew.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a dark hazy brown color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, brown sugar with a creamy note and a very light roast. Taste is roasted malts, coffee, brown sugar, chocolate, vanilla, cream, leafy bitter hops in the finish. Medium bodied. Smooth and creamy. Good beer... one of my favorites from Left Hand.

12oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a bit of a chestnut hue, capped with a modest sized tan head. Aroma is on the sweet side, with notes of cocoa powder, malted milk, and coffee in the background. Cocoa and roasted chocolate malt hit the palate first, and are joined by bakers chocolate towards the finish. Bittersweet chocolate clings to the palate for a length finish. Silky smooth mouthfeel makes this really easy to drink. Nice stout.

A: Dark black in color with a nice khaki head. Minimal lacing left behind. S: Nice aroma of toasted malt, coffee and milk chocolate. T: Very nice. I love a good milk stout, and this one is just that. It is a well crafted stout with hints of hot cocoa. M: Smooth and creamy.
