Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

Courtesy of sea bass. Pours deep clear garnet to amber with nice mocha head. The aroma is musty roasty malts mixing with wood along with light hints of bourbon and molasses. The taste hits first with notes of roasted malts, wood, molasses and vanilla. Then I get a bit of bourbon joining the oak and the other notes by midway. It smooths out some into the finish.

Crushed with Jakebra at BSAF. Thin, yet packed with flavor. Not as good as their regular imperial stout. It loses the dark fruits and chocolate. Still very drinkable and pretty damn good.

2007 bottle courtesy of sebletitje. Pours a murky pitch black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of wood, vanilla, smoke, ripe dark fruit, caramel, chocolate, some hints of bourbon or brandy. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of honey, caramel, ripe dark fruit, raisins, chocolate, just faint hints of roasted malts and coffee. Generally full body with a pleasing sugary and malty finish. Nice brew.

2007 750 caged bottle. Totally lived up to the amazing logo of the bottle. I thought their regular Imp Stout was out of this world, now the Oaked version just nails this beer as one outstanding brew. Pours deep black with thick beige head. Aroma light notes of smoke and oak wood as well as plenty of good malts and chocolate. Taste had a deep presence of oak and bourbon mouthfeel. Lots of tasty chocolate and malts, possibly sweet sugary notes of dark raisins (possibly from teh wine barrel use). Will probably age the other bottles. This was one amazing offering by Left Hand. Tasty, highly drinkable, and loaded with an amazing palate.

Thanks zuluflboy for the share. 07 Vintage. Pours motor oil black with a tan head. Some yellow lace on the swirl. Nose is licorice, chocolate, vanilla, and a tiny twinge of coffee. Flavor is vanilla, whiskey, chocolate, roasted malt, and a very mellow sweetness. Enjoyable Imp. Stout.

Bottle shared by wolf-man. Poured into a snifter. Light black in color, decent head. Solid aroma of chocolate. Taste is just the right touch of oak, chocolate, roasted malts, touch of hop bitterness to keep it balanced. Texture is a little thin but it makes it easy to drink. Overall a well done Impy stout. Thanks again wolf!

Bottle, courtesy sebletititjetjeje. Black pour, huge creamy head, thick filmy lacing. Oaky notes in the nose, raisin, chocolate, some slight chocolate and very distant smooth bourbon. Chocolate and oak flavors are big, with bourbon, slight coffee, some roast and caramel, slight toast. Smooth, balanced, drinkable and dry.
