Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

25.4 oz bottle, 10th Anniversary version. Ebony with a dense cap of tan foam. Nose is coffee, molasses, vanilla and oats. Medium body with a thinning fizz. Taste is prune, mocha, tobacco and bitter grass with hints of caramel. Prominent alcohol and vegetal notes hold this back.

It is black with a tint of red. The aroma is of dark fruit, alcohol, caramel, wood and coffee. Flavor is also of dark fruit, with coffee, oak and it is well balanced with a good bitterness.

From bottle #8 at sk8vikings American blind tasting. Poura dark brown with lacing tan to white head. Dense chocolate and vanilla aroma. Spiced and chocolate malt in the initial flavour. Smooth and roasted to chocolate malty. Roasted lingering finish. Nice and easy.

#8 Bottle [Sk8viking great American blind tasting] Small beige looking bubbly head that mostly diminished. Spare display of lacework. Black color. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, wood, vanilla, dried fruit. Medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation and mild dry smooth texture. Moderated to heavy sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Lingering burned malt and liquorish finish. 8 / 3 / 8 / 4 / 16 = 3.9

Relatively opaque dark brown. Lightly barrelly on the nose - whiskey, soy sauce, lots of toffee and chocolate. Fairly sweet, chewy. Mainly toffee, chocolate, molasses up front. Sweet finish with light hints of booze and bourbon. Good balance, though it because heavily bourbony as it warms.

Bottle. Dark black pour with a tan head. Rich aroma, vanilla, molasses and chocolate. Flavor is very sweet up front, like vanilla and brown sugar, and then finishes with a very coffee like flavor. Alot of rich flavors here, perhaps a bit too sweet for my taste, but still an exceptional beer.

750 ml, 2007 vintage. Two-finger head settles to a lasting creamy disc atop the black beer leaves frosting all over the glass. Aroma is molasses, toffee, cocoa, coffee with cream and brown sugar, and a hint of red wine. Front flavor is molasses, chocolate, raisin, caramel, with a touch of sour cream. Finish is earthy cocoa, dried wood, char, red wine. Heavy body is smooth, lightly tingly, and slightly dry at the end.
