Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

The aroma starts this whole thing off. Pretty filling with hints of vanilla and bourbon. The flavor starts with some coffee overtones follows with raspberries but really smooths again. You can taste the oak with gives it a bourbon flavor, but with out being too over powering. I’m not much a fan of stouts but I did really enjoy this one. I will buy this again.

So, for as long as I’ve known Springslicker, this has been in has cellar. He’s brought it to tastings, he’s brought it to gatherings, youname it. So our goal was to kill this before I left. Being as we’re are industrious and goal oriented, that’s exactly what we did. Black, with a thin brown head. The years have muted a lot of oak character, I’m guessing, but it’s still there, faintly. Hints of bourbon or vanilla, too. Flavor is an appealing mix of raisin and prune, plus coffee and chocolate. Pretty good beer, actually. Thanks, Jay!

Thanks Nick for this one!
2007 - Pours brown with the exact look and consistency of Coca-Cola. Even the carbonation looks like a cola. Smells of whiskey, chocolate, roasted malts, toffee, vanilla, and caramel. First sip is smooth, dry, malty, chocolaty, followed with whiskey and mild bitterness. Mouthfeel is under carbonated but not an issue. The warmer it gets, the more the whiskey flavor comes out.
Mellow and smooth, this is good!

Bottle ’02/’03 vintage: Deep brown with a smaller beige head. Nose is malty and roasty, hints of smoke. Smooth and creamy palate. Taste is sweet caramel and bits of chocolate filled with some dark fruits. Bits of toffee and oak. Hops have pretty well faded at this point, but retains a bit of a bw characted. Thanks Indiana Red!

Not actaully beer #500 so keep your shirts on. 2007 bottle. Nose is of chocolate, roasted malt, milk and some creme. There is a bit of a boozy whiff to this beer as well. Head is tan with a black brown body. Taste is woody, chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Although it is a bit watery, I found this stout to be highly drinkable and not lacking in the taste department.

3rd Annual Woodshop Tasting, 3/1/08. Thanks Chris! Nose and flavor similar - some oaky vanilla, licorice, malty, coffee, sweet bourbon --- quite yummy!
