Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

Pours black with a nice mocha colored head. Aroma is dark malts and chocolate. Taste is nice smooth rich dark malts, with some slight fruity tastes as well. Pretty good stuff.

Doesnt measure up to GD oak aged imperial stout but not far behind. The vanilla and oak aging may mellow this out too much. A bit too reserved.Pricey.

bottle. pours an opaque black with a thick, dense tan head, that hasn’t really gone down at all, but laced what little glass it disappeared from quite well. smell is cocoa, then roasted malts and coffee, then black cherry, then some woody notes, in addition to a whole bunch of american floral/citrus hops. all of the same notes in the flavor, with the cocoa toned down, and the dark fruit a bit more noticeable, along with the hops. really deep dark taste. initially quite sweet on the palate, but not in a bad way, and a mild hop bitterness balancing it out. thick as molasses, and what seems like tons of carbonation, giving it a very creamy mouthfeel. almost milk-like, but a bit stickier. this is a very good imperial stout. the strength of the fruit flavors, and the balance of the cocoa and coffee notes really make it stand out. good stuff.

2007 750ml bottle. Pours a deep black with a large creamy/lacing tan head. Aroma of caramel, toffee, woody, earthy, chocolate, nuts, vanilla and some coffee. Flavor of dark fruits, oak, vanilla, woody, roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, coffee and a nice toasted quality.

This was a nice Imperial Stout and not too overwhelming. Definitely noticed the oak aging characteristics. Worth finding!

2007 edition. Dark black with a nice full creamy cola colored head. I smell hops, raisins/plums and fruit punch! Nice full body with velvety finish! Yum! Bourbon/coffee notes. This beer has something. Alcohol taste is prevalent however. Very good balance of hops. Pretty, pretty good.
