Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

Bottle. Big thanks to cbkschubert for sending me this one. Medium dark pour with thin head. Aroma is of molasses, wood, chocolate. Flavor is of oak, chocolate, lightly hoppy. Crwamy mouthfeel, slightly dry. Very smooth with the 10% alcohol not being detected. Good Imperial Stout. This hit the spot.

Corked and caged bottle. Medium size tan head that was mostly lasting, fair amount of lacing, opaque, and a dark brown hue. Nose was dark malts, oak, hoppy, licorice, chocolate, roasty and burnt. Flavor was licorice, dark malts, oak, chocolate, burnt, roasty, and vinuous. Finishes dry. Tingly, dry mouthfeel. Medium-full body. Very nicely done, very tasty and definitely worthy of a try IMO.

first beer of the EXCURSION :

Pours a dark brown colour .-.

the head is elite, the lacing even more so! .-.

smell is lacking for 1.an imperial stout and 2. an oak aged brew .-.

Mouthfeel is light light and non overpowering ( or thin, depending on who you are) but I would basically call it smooth .-.

Taste ... first thing that really hits you is the (as fore mentioned) lightness to this brew-- fore one, the alcohol is amazingly hidden (one of the most in any brew i have ever come by) The oak flavour is also very subtle, good for some, but not really for me.

Overall, A very nice beer that is quite people friendly but for the price ($12) i can get a sixer of storm king and have some left over... .-.

The 750ML Bottle poured a clear garnet (almost black with ruby highlights around the edges) colored beverage with a modest sized creamy tan head that lasted nicely throughout and left great lacing on the glass. The aroma was complex and rich with wonderful notes of caramel, vanilla, oak and dark dried sweet fruits. There was also just a hint of charred wet wood at the edge of perception. The body was full with soft carbonation and a soft creamy texture that clung to the tongue and palate. The flavor starts out lightly sweet echoing the components of the aroma. The finish is long and takes on a light alcohol warmth and bitterness toward the end.

2007 corked bottle. Pours a shifty black/brown with potent but smallish head. Coffee, toffee, caramel, chocolate, vanilla, rubber/ tobacco aromas invade the olfactory system. The taste yields similar flavors, while focusing on coffee, chocolate aspects. The barrel aging makes itself apparent on the sour/oaky smoked tastes in early to mid palate, and in the lengthy, warming and drying finish which produces a distant smokiness. There is a faint peaty, earthy character similar to a single malt scotch, but certainly not as powerful. Alcohol is well hidden, but observable on both taste and aroma. Nice brew
