Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

22 oz. bottle from 99 Bottles in Federal Way, WA. Colour... very dark brown, but garnet when held to the light. Nose... very boozy, oaky and phenolic. Palate... creamy, frothy, highly phenolic like an Islay Scotch, ultra smoky with dark chocolate, cherry, raisin, anise, hops and spice. This baby is like a vintage port: it needs time in the cellar to round off the edges and ease up on the grip. This’ll be really bitchin’ in a year!

750 ml bottle - 2007 vintage; thanks jimbowood for the trade; black with thin light brown head; coffee and vanilla; drinks on the sweet side with thin, smooth texture; pretty much flat and lifeless; pretty nice but seems to be missing something; stout is quite light and lots of oaking is evident; flavor on the mild side

2009 bottle. Pours dark and inky, with a medium tan head, very fine and lasting lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla, with a woody undertone. Thick body, velvety, dry and slightly chalky. Flavors of dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, oak and cherry; rich and warming, with a medium dry, piney finish.

22oz bottle. Pours a near black with a small tan head. Nose is wood and brandy. Taste is oak, brandy, soy, licorice, cacao, and spicy hops. Body is light/medium. Carbonation is moderate. A bit hot. WOuld be better witha bigger body and less alc...Likely will age well and be much better in a year.

Mellow aroma consisting primarily of rich chocolate and stale fruit. Some roasted notes as well as an underlying nuttiness. Opaque dark body with a thin filmy head and solid lacing, looks thick and rich. Hearty mouthfeel that is viscous and smooth, good malty body and rather balanced. Layers of dark fruit flavors with plenty of chocolate and roasted malts. Coffee, nuts and and underlying woodiness. It was solid, but not worth the money to ever revisit.

22 oz. bottle- Pours deep black with a beautiful creamy tan head, this is a powerfully complex stout, yet very mellow and has a nice oak flavor to it. What i like most is that it doesn’t have an overbearing whiskey or brandy flavor, just subtle hints after the swallow.

Bottle, 65cl - Hazy black brown beer, with a moderate beige head. Aroma is malty with hints of chocolate, licorice, coconut and coffee. Flavor is malty with hints of coffee, prunes and chocolate. Balanced and great.

Draft. Brandy barrels eh? Pours near black with a beige head. Milk chocolatey sweet aroma with some lighter boozy licorice notes. The flavor brings roasted malts, chocolate, toasted marshmellows, toffee, and just a tiny bit of that brandy barrel peeking through. Quite enjoyable.
