Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

750 ml bottle from OhioDad, thanks man! Pours dark brown, but translucent with brick highlights and a large creamy beige head. Aroma is heavy with dark fruits, molasses and cherries, with hints of chocolate fudge, alcohol, young oak and undertones of coffee. This is like a chocolate, cherry cordial candy in a glass, rich and sweet, dripping with figs and espresso, floral and herbal notes as well - this is a nicely balanced and complex brew. Full body with gentle, creamy carbonation. Yummy!

This beer pours a black color with a very thin tan head. Take one whiff of this thing and it smells really goood! This brew is not quite as roasty and strong as some of the other imperial stouts but that is kinda refreshing! It makes this brew a little more drinkable and not so harsh. I give it 2 thumbs up!

Served from a cask @ the Left Hand tasting room. Midnight black impenetrable pour with a thick creamy tan head, beautiful lacing on the glass as I drink it. Nice aroma of wood and whiskey. Mouthfeel is smooth as silk, very creamy. Flavor is a ton of bourbon mixed with some roasted coffee notes. Nice alcohol warming in the end. A very good impy stout!

more on the sweet side for an imperial stout, didnt get much hops. wood-aged flavor in there, gives it a little extra something. mostly dark malts here. could benefit from a little more finishing hops.

Black pour, light tan head, good lacing and retention. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, caramel, vanilla, darker fruits, vanilla and more barrel. Medium to heavy body, an enjoyable beer no question, but nothing special about it for the oak aged impy field.

Pours black as coffee at midnight w/ a full, semi creamy chocolate froth. Good head retention w/ spattered residual lacing. Aroma of sweet malted espresso and cocoa. Full nectar w/ chewy, creamy residual effers. Bacon fat malty sweet decadence striving for refinement armed w/ it’s powerfull hopsy switchblades that cut through the blubber. Huge chocolate and espresso w/ a moderate roast component. Vanilla bean, leather, slight charcoal, dark fudge, coconut milk, Moderately sweet balanced by the strict asprin hops that dig in and linger. Theres a pleasant chocolate covered cherry thing going on here. Nice! The finish is long and lingers forever leaving a slight nutty nuance w/ an asprin bittering component. Very warming. Alcohol is well hidden. Highly recommended.

Oily black color with a thin tan head. Lots of coffee aroma with hints of licorice, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste is rather nice. Lots of coffee flavors and well hidden alcohol make this easy to drink and enjoyable. Best Left Hand beer by far.

Nearly solid black pour with a thin brown head. Slightly meaty vanilla, oak, roasted barley and coffee aroma. Very oaky flavor with a long vanilla note. Sweet and roasted in flavor with chocolate and a resinous quality I attribute to the hops. There is a hint of smoke in the background. Very smooth with barely noticable alcohol and a warm finish. LH’s best beers are their dark ones.
