Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

750mL bottle. Dark ruby red brown with a small dark tan head. Sickly sweet malt aroma, figs, raisins, and apple skin in the aroma. Heavy sweet malt flavors, hints of roastiness and apple juice. Residual astringency in the finish. Mouthfeel is heavy, fairly chewy.

Roasty aroma. Pours very dark with a beautiful tan head. The flavor is a mildly sweet chocolate, maltiness. The palate is almost chewy. Finishes with a light breath of hops. Thank you Left Hand!

2002-2003 vintage. Cloudy black pour with a generous tan head. Roasted malt aroma, sweet start, smooth roasty malt, chocomalt flavors. Reminds me of chocolate milk. Small hint of bourbon, which I like. Somewhat vineous, good mouthfeel, alcohol is still evident. Well done!

Thanks to my brother ChazyRPH for acquiring this. I have 02-03 vintage in my notes. Roasty, dry, chocolate aroma with mild hints of oaky woodsiness. Mostly opaque dark brown/black in color with a solid tan head and some floaties present. Dry, vinous chocolates to start. Turns more roasted in the middle with some woodsiness to follow. A bit of booziness comes through in the end with some mild astringency.

Indy Gathering Dec 2005. This bottled brew poured a large sized head of foamy fine to medium sized mostly lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind an unnoted lacing. The body contained unnoted carbonation, was unnoted and dark ruby red brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of roasted malts mild . Its mouth feel is initially tingly with a lingering tingly palate and a hoppy malty aftertaste. Its flavor contained dark malty notes.

Dark but not black. Decent head and nice lace. Oak is definatly present along with some sweetness on the nose. Rich but not full bodied, carmelly and slight hops in the back and oak really doesn’t come through much in the taste.

Bottle. Aroma is a little moldy. Unclear, very dark brown colour. Peppery, slightly cardboardy flavour. Sweetish aftertaste. I prefer the non-oaked version.

(Bottle 75 cl) Unclear, dark brown and opaque with a weak tint of red. Nice, creamy, beige head. Vinous, port-like nose. Lovely fullness with lots of roasted malt and a harmonious balance between the dryness of the burned malt and the sweetness. Vague fusty, artisanal notes. Overripe plums and dates and prunes. The barrel aging has definitely changed this, but I still find the original a better beer. 031205 and 260708
