Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

Dark but not black. Decent head and nice lace. Oak is definatly present along with some sweetness on the nose. Rich but not full bodied, carmelly and slight hops in the back and oak really doesn’t come through much in the taste.

Bottle. Aroma is a little moldy. Unclear, very dark brown colour. Peppery, slightly cardboardy flavour. Sweetish aftertaste. I prefer the non-oaked version.

(Bottle 75 cl) Unclear, dark brown and opaque with a weak tint of red. Nice, creamy, beige head. Vinous, port-like nose. Lovely fullness with lots of roasted malt and a harmonious balance between the dryness of the burned malt and the sweetness. Vague fusty, artisanal notes. Overripe plums and dates and prunes. The barrel aging has definitely changed this, but I still find the original a better beer. 031205 and 260708

Bottle. Pours a deep black with a small tan head. Aroma is weak with this one. Roasty wood flavor with hints of chocolate, burnt sugar, and wine. Balance is good, sweetness matches the other flavors as well as the alcohol. Palate is thin, looking for a bigger body here. Bad notes, too far into the tasting for accuracy. Would like to try again in a different environment.

(Bottle courtesy ’hippie4beer’ Indy tasting 12/10/05) Aroma of chocolate malt, coffee, and oak. Pours black with little head. Flavor is slightly bland and matches aroma. Alcohol shows through as does a touch of port. Palate is rather thin for an imperial stout. Original rating 7/4/6/3/15=3.5

re-rate of the 2004 vintage - a lot better than my original rating. Smooth and easily drinkable while still having a lot of flavor.

(on bottle at CPH Yeha05) Here we go; barrelageing seems to do some beers good. Dense, brown colour, steady beige head. Aromas are so mucg better than the normal imp; roting wood, chocolate, molasses, port and hardburnt sugars. very good balance in the finish; alcohol vs sweetness.

Reddish brown beer with a small tan head. Malty and bready aroma with notes of wood and chocolate. Roasted malty flavor with a faint note of wood and a warming alcohol finish.
