Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

750ml bottle. Dark nearly opaque reddish brown, medium off-white head that never completely dissipates. Aroma of malt, toffee, honey, touch of raisin and some roast grain. Flavor is light- to medium-roast bitterness, alcohol, coffee, lactose & a dash of dried fruit. Medium body & mouthfeel is thinner than one might expect for this style. Pleasant, tingly palate. Pleasantly subtle for the style -- not as in-your-face as many of its contemporaries.

Pour is not so dark black with a thin tan head...smell is toasty with some coffee, toffee, nuts, crayons, some alcohol...taste is sweet sweet cocoa, coffee, and alcohol...the coffee is much more subtle than the cocoa...some smokey notes from the oak...

Thanks Whaleman: Deep brown with a lacy off-white head. Some chocolate, bretta and oaky notes. Med., med.-light body. Tons of chocolate flavors with some restrained oak and light acidity. Finishes slightly sweet considering the attenuation in the body

Bottle courtesy of MrFacto as an extra. Pours oily dark brown almost black, mahogany tint to light. Up front woodsy oak aroma, coffee and chocolate take a back seat. Flavor has alot of creamy milk chocolate and a tiny bit of bourbon. As it warms gets sweeter and sweeter. Nicely done. Thanks again Matt!

Pours a dark dark brown, small tan head. ARoma is coffee chocolate, booze (red wine) (think french cooking). Flavor is a balance of chocolate and coffee, very sour overtones from the barrel.

Bottle thanks to I believe Dickinsonbeer at HW open house. Dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Nice roasted chocolate malt aroma with some oak, licorice and vanilla. Flavor was tons of chocolate malt, oak, vanilla and a bit of licorice. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Excellent.

DARK beer that has has the interesting characteristic of head that increases after being poured. The fragrance ( better word than aroma with this beer) is rich and fruity. Perhaps plums are evident. The flavor is wonderful! Definite fruit aspects which give it a unique quality. Coffee and chocolate are there as expected, but the fruit gives the beer true character. I only bought one bottle, but it seems to be one of those beers that provides new surprises with each tasting. TRY THIS BEER!
