| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 30, 2005 Bottle. Solid black color with a foamy light brown head. A rich vanilla and wood aroma with with sweet chocolate (although more understated than I would have expected) and mild coffee in the nose. Smooth and creamy (although the carbonation was a bit too lively) with a coffee and chocolate aftertaste. The flavor is primarily of caramel and roasted malts but accented by dark fruits. Thanks to OhioDad for the trade! Brewso (238), Mt Kisco, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2005 This is the thinnest imperial stout I have had (aside from the belgian ones). Not nearly as enveloping as the bigger imp stouts (like expedition and oak yeti) but very tasty nonetheless. Lots of layered chocolates both dark and milk with a very pleasant hop bite that staves off the cloying effect. This just goes down so smoothly and easily. Not a trace of the 10%. eboats (901), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 27, 2005 Dark black with a dark brown head. Not as brown as the Dark Lord. Aroma is rich and chocolatety, kind of milkly chocolate aroma, with the oak aged barrels shinning through. God damn milkly smooth. Taste is real mild and smooth. Definately a creamy texture. Flavor is hugely chocolate, but thinned down. Kind of like chocolate milk, w/o the milk. Goes down real smooth and creamy. Some coffee present that presents some bitterness, but tough to disccern. The palate is a little watery, and damn smooth. You can drink this stuff as fast as many stouts. Philip (436), Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 26, 2005 Sampled at the Corkscrew beer tasting. The nose on this is rather impressive, woody and earthlike, with notes of mushroom and clove. I picked up bourbon notes on the nose, but none present on the palate, only the oak. Oak notes are met with some dark, dried fruit and licorice. The body was too thin for my liking, nor was this very robust. A decent flavor profile, but nothing that blew me away. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 7, 2005 Thanks to JPDIPSO for this one. This one was harder to open than Mother Theresa’s legs, and I’d much rather spend time with a real beer than a phony religious icon anyway. Pours dark black, with big brown head. Aroma of roast malt, chocoff, prunes, licorice, and some oaky bourbon. The taste is roasty malty up front, followed by chocoff, prunes, licorice, bourbon, and oaky mid-palate and finishing notes. Dense on the palate, but not as dense or complex as the elite Impy stouts. Well hidden alcohol, that hit me pretty hard in the morning. IndianaRed (1562), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 28, 2005 Bottle Pours a dark brown with a deep tan head. Lots of clingy lacing. Dark roasted aromas and of chocolate, grape jelly, and some coffee. Flavors were more along the smoky/roasted notes. Very nice thick smooth feel. Almost oily. The oak agedness comes through a bit as well. A finish of smokey bitterness taht is just right. Pailhead (2609), Allen Park, Michigan, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 15, 2005 Bottle: Courtesy of Styles. Lots of chocolate in the aroma with some light roasted malt. Pours a dark brown with no transparency and a small tan head. Lots of chocolate, some caramel, and a hint of vanilla. Light roastiness in the finish. Very little coffee. Slightly better than the regular version. Odeed (1679), Bakersfield, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 2, 2005 first off i must give a huge thanks to mr facto for sending this my way,and as a bonus brew no doubt.i gotta say i liked the appearance of the bottle.(although the little "twisty" thingy on the cage broke and i had to open it with wire cutters!)ok,now for the rating.body is a little lighter in color than expected, almost a deep dark brown.as i poured i got a nice light brown head.my first whiff brougt up aromas of smoke, cocoa powder, chocolate, and a bit of a port wine.first sip almost blew my socks off.chocolate, malts, coffee, and a tiny bit of wine like flavors all graced my tastebuds.its so very smooth and well balanced its really hard to distinguish one flavor from another.this ranks very high on my list of imperial stouts.
