Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

dark color w/ a light red hugh and a touch cloudy w/ a nice off white head that stays and laces well. Big sweet hop scent w/ a nice malt background. very fresh hop a little grassy filled w/ raisens. Good body nice carbonation fairly creamy. Flavor is a lot of sweet malts very smooth very sweet. Aging shows through in smooth finish w/ hints of alcohol. A bit light in the hop area. Overall taste reminded me of an aged barly wine. Very good stuff. Thanks Blake for brininging this one out.

I picked up a 750 of this at Discount Liquor for about $10. The appearance is thick creamy, rocky head with EXCELLENT lacing. Dark brown color. The aroma is oak, peaty, green raisins, dark chocolate, roasted malt, sweet hoppiness. The flavor is oak, sweet, almost Baltic porterish, grassy hops, very cask aged in flavor, coffee and chocolatey, raisin. Very complex. The palate is sweet and acedic, warming, alcohol. Overall, this would cellar well and should be done so. The alcohol needs to die down and the flavor needs to mellow.

Pours unclear dark brown with a fine light brown head. Sweet chocolate and coffee aroma, nice and full. Roasted flavor with chocolate notes. Mild in the taste, but full-bodied. Buttery tones. Quite similar to the normal Left Hand Imperial Stout.

Acquired in trade with Ernest. Poured a dark, dark brown with red at the edges with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of lighter vanilla, oak, light smoke, and a light bourbon. Tastes of chocolates, dark fruits, wine, bourbon and dark fruits. Light alcohol in the finish. I’m curious to taste the non-oak aged version to compare. I enjoyed this.

Beautiful oakbarrel and malt aroma, very deep dark chocolate taste, nice rich texture, hops keep the sweetness from getting excessive,as it warms , a wonderful bourbonflavor bcomes apparent in the aroma and taste, it also develops a smoother and creamier texture. This beer must not be served to cold. A new favorite

Bottle. Pours a deep brown/black. Nose is all about vanilla, some oak wood and just a bit of licorice up front. Taste is sweet malts and roastiness with a clean, well rounded mouthfeel. Super rich with balanced woodiness, but simple straight forward malt character. Bitter coffee finish is just what the doctor ordered. I just wish it was a bit chewier...otherwise a nice impy.

A hazy brown beer with a small disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet matly with mainly coffee notes, but also hints of bourbon. The flavor has distinct bourbon character mixed in with the notes of coffee and chocolate while the alcohol burns the tongue. Just a notch better than the standard Imperial Stout.

Pours dark brown, with a large tan/brown head. Aromas of sweet roasted malt, dark fruit, a little bit of chocolate and coffee. Flavors are subtle for an IS, chocolate, dark fruit, red wine and hops. Body is medium. This is a good beer, but it seems like poor man’s Posiedon.
