Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

Beautiful oakbarrel and malt aroma, very deep dark chocolate taste, nice rich texture, hops keep the sweetness from getting excessive,as it warms , a wonderful bourbonflavor bcomes apparent in the aroma and taste, it also develops a smoother and creamier texture. This beer must not be served to cold. A new favorite

Bottle. Pours a deep brown/black. Nose is all about vanilla, some oak wood and just a bit of licorice up front. Taste is sweet malts and roastiness with a clean, well rounded mouthfeel. Super rich with balanced woodiness, but simple straight forward malt character. Bitter coffee finish is just what the doctor ordered. I just wish it was a bit chewier...otherwise a nice impy.

A hazy brown beer with a small disappearing brown head. The aroma is sweet matly with mainly coffee notes, but also hints of bourbon. The flavor has distinct bourbon character mixed in with the notes of coffee and chocolate while the alcohol burns the tongue. Just a notch better than the standard Imperial Stout.

Pours dark brown, with a large tan/brown head. Aromas of sweet roasted malt, dark fruit, a little bit of chocolate and coffee. Flavors are subtle for an IS, chocolate, dark fruit, red wine and hops. Body is medium. This is a good beer, but it seems like poor man’s Posiedon.

Brown to dark amber color. The aroma improves a little, with some vanilla touch, light Madeira, showing the roasted malt as the regular. The flavor is essentially caramel and caramel, not complex enough, a bit astringent at the end, too much carbonation, a bit coffeish. Quite good. Thanks Jens (Ungstrup) for sharing this bottle.

Dark brew with a lightly oaked malty aroma. Roasted malts throughout with a hint of wood. Smooth and enjoyable.

Bottled: Dark brown/red coloured. Light brown head. Aroma is malyt, light roasty and has some notes of berries. Flavour of chocolate, malt and alcohol. Ends on a chocolatish and grassy note and has some alcoholwarmth on the palate. This is a good Imp. stout and easy to drink in spite of the high ABV. IMO the barrelaging has not contributed anything to this beer. We tried the 2 beers side by side, and they were totally similar. Hense equal ratings.

Big alchohol/espresso based stout - there are hints of olives and at times pineapple. Just a touch woody and somewhat smokey. The finish is a bit unpleasant with all the alchohol but despite this the beer seems remarkably smooth. Sweet, smokey, and tangy, this takes on many characteristics but holds its own within the style.
