Commercial Description:
2008 and prior years: This 10th Anniversary celebration Imperial Stout hibernated in our cellars in French oak wine barrels since deep in the winter 2002-03. An ambitious blend of rich, dark malts and a wild variety of aromatic and bittering hops yield a beer that is large in character. Available in cork-finished, bottle-conditioned 750ml bottles.

2009 release: Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Russian Imperial Stouts gained popularity as a British export style from the late 1700’s through WWI. It catered to the Russians’lavish and opulent tastes and was well suited to the rigors of shipping across the Baltic Sea. Hibernating in brandy barrels for nine months before being blended to woody perfection, it is then bottle conditioned for an authentic old world experience. Imperial Stout is the perfect warmer for chilly winter nights. Enjoy the complex flavors that develop during the cask aging, including raisin, cherry, licorice, and toffee. It finishes with earthy, herbal hop notes. If discontent is the fuel of revolution then this brew is sure to keep any Bolsheviks sitting quietly by the fire. 75% Malt Beverage & 25% Malt Beverage Aged in Oak Brandy Barrels

Draught. Black oily pour with a nice thick frothy brown head. Aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is complex with dark fruit, chocolate, smokey coffee, almonds and malt present. Nice bitter dry finish with some warming alcohol present.

Pretty blah imp stout. The flavors are all there, but not really that balanced. Appearance is subpar. Mouthfeel is below average for an imp stout. Not a bad beer, but not a great stout.

Found this to be a pretty good Impy stout. Complex aromas of dark fruit, toffee, bitter chocolate and a very faint hint of the barrel aging. Flavor is thick and heavy, dripping in thick waves of raisins, plums, dark toffee, burnt brown sugar, pine resin and bitter chocolate. Alcohol is well-hidden and very warming. A decent impy stout.

Bottle. Aroma of rich, roasted malt, semisweet chocolate, cocoa, generally sweet and decadent. Flavor perhaps even sweeter than the aroma indicated with the brandy coming more into play, but all the sweet notes are distinct and somehow manage to largely balance each other. Very solid impy.

2009 vintage. 22oz bottle served in a snifter. Poured a deep brown with a finger of tan head. Chocolate and cocoa in the aroma also some hops. Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Toffee dominated the flavor, also chocolate malt in there. Decent amount of hop bitterness. A bit of dark fruit. Maybe a little thin for the style. I really didn’t get much wood character. Alcohol was not evident at all making this a very easy drinking beer at 10% abv.

Enjoyable stout, chocolatey aroma with a sharp chocolatey taste and smooth, semi-booze finish. Nice
