Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo’ Series. Widdershins, our counterclockwise biennial barleywine aged in oak casks reveals fruity notes of orange and apricot upon a foundation of oak, garlanded with earthy hoppiness. Our answer to waning daylight and frigid temperatures can be enjoyed immediately or saved in your cellar for a snowy day. Cheers!
Bottle Conditioned
50% Aged in Oak Cask

2007 Vintage. 750 ml bottle, corked and caged. Served in a snifter. Bottle conditioned. I had a tough time getting the cork out for some reason. Poured a hazy, reddish gold with a couple of fingers of white bubbled head. Pretty good amount of carbonation. Great aroma, lots of fresh piney/citrusy hops. Also some burnt sugar. I didn’t get much oak from this. There was a pronounced smokey not. Medium bodied with good amount of hop bitterness. Long, hoppy finish with a little pucker. A little overpriced in my opinion.

Bottled. Hazy copper with a yellow-ish head. Woody and smoked aroma with some toffee. Very burnt flavour; licorice, tar, peat. Sweet and malty with ok bitterness.

Sweet chcoolate aroma with faint orange citrus hop hints. Murky browniish orange color. Oak, peat, and chocolate on the body with sweet brown sugar and dark fruit notes.

Warm dark brown. Potent hoppy aroma with aftersmell of the barrel. A pretty balanced barleywine with ripe fruity, woody, and hoppy elements but is too heavy-going for my taste.

750ml bottle dated 2007, caged and corked. Pours a slightly hazy reddish golden with a big pillowy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is pretty subdued - some peppery malts and a little leather and maybe some old metallic fruits.

The flavor is peppery, metallic malts with a little sweet fruitiness and a good sized bitter alcoholic finish. The mouthfeel is on the thin side but pretty smooth

. Overall, it’s just an odd combination of flavors and doesn’t work for me.

Bottle courtesy of mgumby10. Cloudy orange with a decent off white head. Little bit of lacing. Nice oaky vanilla taste with a crazy citrus kick and a good amount of hop bitterness. The aroma almost is like an IPA with a touch of vanilla and caramel. The taste is similar with a super dry finish with a honeyed citrus note and hop bitterness. Decent but not great.

Pours a cloudy brownish red color with a big white and annoyingly slow dissipating off white head. Flavor is woody upfront and fades into a smooth malty beverage. Creamy texture. Grapefruit and citrus hop aroma that has not come through to the flavor much if at all. Some red fruit flavors, caramel malt. The only hop presence is in the finish as it leaves the slightest bitter finish once it passes down your throat. Decent BW with a faint hint of the oak aging. Aging comes through as a woody sort of experience up front as opposed to any sort of stiff sweetness or vanilla flavors. Subtle but present and good.
