Sweet, malty aroma with notes of dark berries. Flavour is quite sweet with a smooth and rounded maltiness with notes of dark berries and honey. Could easily be mistaken for a Dunkler Bock. milljam (584), Norman, Oklahoma, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 27, 2008 What I hold here is yet another craft breweries attempt at a traditional German Oktoberfest Marzen beer. In this specific instance, it would be Left Hand Brewing bringing their brewing skills into the game, even though technically the season is practically over. Seasons or not, nothing will keep me from trying a beer I haven’t had before. My Oktoberfest Marzen from Left Hand Brewing poured a clear amber with hints of orange glinting where the light shines through. A thick orange-cream head tops the brew below while multiple swirls is required to produce any kind of pronounceable lace. Sadly, the lace is short-lived, fading unceremoniously into oblivion. I raise my glass for a whiff of her nose and am greeted by chewy toasted malts, cold pancake syrup, caramelized sugars, and bitter nuts. A rather interesting aroma, but now it is time to see how the actual brew below fairs. A clean body with a faint honeyish mouthfeel which I attribute to the syrupy notes in her nose. Very light all around, her palate hints of mild toasted malts, sugars, syrup, and light citric esters in the finish. I try looking for more, but my Oktoberfest Marzen from Left Hand Brewing has spoken for all she is worth which, unfortunately, comes out as barely average. Left Hand is usually a solid and consistent performer of really good and sometimes great beers, but their Oktoberfest Marzen does neither and fails to satisfy or wow me. She wasn’t bad, but I just felt like there was too much traditional Oktoberfest character missing. That being said, their other year-round brews are fantastic so pick them up if you ever have a chance. guyinchicago (539), marengo, Illinois, USA

9/26/2007: Left Hand Oktoberfest has a large, sticky, beige-colored head. The actual color of the beer is a light orange-brown. The aroma contains toasted European malt as does the grainy flavor. There is a fruity twist in the flavr as well. This beer is medium-bodied with a smooth, creamy, and mellow mouthfeel. Overall is is a noble, somewhat respectable attempt at an Oktoberfest beer, but unfortunately it still fell quite a bit short...

8/13/2009: LH Oktoberfest Marzen Lager... Aroma: Sweaty balls aroma? Not good! I don’t know what else to say. Just kidding. Lightly toasted caramel malt with really light hops. Similar to a traditional Oktoberfest. Appearance: Deep shiny copper color; small ivory head. Flavor: Light caramel, not much there. Palate: Average. Overall: Typical Oktoberfest.
