The nose is light and is roasted, caramel, and a slight grain. Taste has a little hop to it, some nuttiness, and a dryer finish with a bitterness. Rakluba (33), Cary, North Carolina, USA

Pours a nice amber-copper body with a lasting white creamy covering.
Earthy caramel aroma with some sweet cookiesh type notes. Sweet cookie and toasted toffee flavours. Not the most aggressive beer which is normal for the style but the subtleties and mild character are quite pleasant.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Bottle and served in standard pint glass: Coppery amber topped by a fading frothy head and left spotty lace upon the glass. The aroma has notes of caramel, pumpernickel bread, peach esters, herbal and earthy vapours. The taste is malty and sugary sweet with just a dollop of fruit and bitterness, Grainy and bready throughout. The mouth feel is smooth and medium-bodied. Not offensive but lack much character which is pretty normal for the style. drewbeerme (2291), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Deep amber coloured body with a dense tan head. Aroma of strong malt, a bit of hops, a lot of peanuts and some light caramel scents. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with potent nuts and some caramalised sugars, tucked into a bit of hops and some mellow yeast flavours. Aftertaste is very mild and pleasing - not harsh nor alcoholic at all. Overall, a decent marzen - really not bad, and probably better than most american attempts at the beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 13-December-2007. keepersj12 (808), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA
