Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo' Series. Our Rye Bock is a pleasant departure from traditional bocks and rye beers. The use of malted rye in beer finds its origins in Bavaria. We here at Left Hand use a bottom fermenting lager yeast, paired with a hop profile of classic German bocks. Our Rye Bock gets a wonderful tangy spiciness from the rye, accompanied by dried cherry aromas in the nose. It is a beer of great flavor with a long, savory finish. The image of a goat has traditionally been the symbol of bock beers. It was customary to feed goats rye to make them potent in the spring. We love the marriage of these two ideas. Will our Rye Bock exacerbate your spring fever? Maybe not, but trying out old folklores never tasted so good.

At the 2007 Big Beer, Belgians, & Barleywines Festival in Vail. Pours a rich amber color with a thin off white head. Fruity and spicy aroma with plenty of malt to the nose. In the flavor, I get the taste of ginger in a fairly pronounced way. Dry and long finish.

Mostly clear amber pour with bright red hues. Slowly diminishing off white head, looks appetizing. Spicy caramel malts and even spicier rye lead in the aroma. The rye component is aggressive, much to my liking. Light cocoa, dark dry fruits, bread and a backnote of yeast bring some fullness to the nose. Flavor is more of the same, but the caramel malt is very fresh tasting. Rye is plentiful, hops are very apparent as well. The spice level is on the money for the style, agitating the tastebuds a little but leaving room to notice some subtle intracacies, like a nice raisin and blackberry duo. A creamy mouthfeel is imparted by the rye. Finishes with full caramel, spicy hot rye and warming from the alcohol, off dry. Tasty.

Pours a dark ruby amber wit a thick lacey light tan head. Smells of caramle malts and light vanilla. Tasted more citric then I was expecting. pretty bitter also. I wanted more of the caramle I believe. Taste is pretty light and the finish was somewhat short. Theres not a whole lot going on in the flavor, but nothing repulsive. Not bad, not great.

750 mL bottle. Thick-looking pour. Dark copper with red tints with a thin, tight white head. Malty-sweet aroma with hints of spice. Medium to thick in body, well-carbonated, easy to drink. Clean lager taste, definite rye influence in taste and palate, slight bitter finish. Not going to knock you over in aroma or taste, but very drinkable.

750ml bottle corked and caged - Pours dark amber with a pretty nice creamy offwhite head that stays well and laces some. Aromas of caramel, rye, lots of bread, and a little raisin. Flavor is good rye bread, caramel, toffee, raisin, a little fig, and slight hops on the finish. Medium body malty and pretty easy to drink. Honestly this was better than I thought it would be when I picked it up but still not worth 12.99..

750 bottle - Deep crimsony orange, thick tan creamy head. Nose was full of rich caramelized rye bread tones, plum, fig, and dates. Deeply malted rye flavors are easily balanced with toffee brittle notes, dark fruits, and a soft hop bitterness. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, dark fruity, rye-like finish. This has aged extremely well in my book. If you’re sitting on bottle, time to crack it open. Very tasty without a doubt...

fruity, carmelly aroma, sweet and smooth mouthfeel, but there is a harshness in the taste indicating its a lager, malty candy sweet with a carmel maple overtone, the rye comes through in the backtaste, nicely done

750 ml bottle. Poured a clear, deep peachy garnet with a tall, well-retained looser beige head. Quite a bit of carbonation rising. Nose was quite rich and full of smoky caramel, spicy rye, and dark syrupy fruits. Flavor found a whole host of sweet malts as well... with dark fruits at the core... sweet caramel and molasses not far behind... and rye spiciness all around. Bitterness was lower and of a woody/herbal character. Medium-bodied. Carbonation was rather high. Finish carried through spicy dark fruits, and stuck around for a while. This was very good!
