Commercial Description:
Thanks for purchasing another offering in our Big Mo' Series. Our Rye Bock is a pleasant departure from traditional bocks and rye beers. The use of malted rye in beer finds its origins in Bavaria. We here at Left Hand use a bottom fermenting lager yeast, paired with a hop profile of classic German bocks. Our Rye Bock gets a wonderful tangy spiciness from the rye, accompanied by dried cherry aromas in the nose. It is a beer of great flavor with a long, savory finish. The image of a goat has traditionally been the symbol of bock beers. It was customary to feed goats rye to make them potent in the spring. We love the marriage of these two ideas. Will our Rye Bock exacerbate your spring fever? Maybe not, but trying out old folklores never tasted so good.

dark brown body with a thick tan head, almost to the edge of looking like a porter. sweet sweet malts and some yeast to the aroma. flavor was smooth and malty, with the rye lingering in the background. little bit of spices and sweet malts make up the tail. this was amazingly smooth and tasty.

05.07.05 750ml bottle at Heavyweight open house...must have been thanks to hopdog? Thick bodied cloudy brown with thick tan head. Soft rye and sweet sugar on nose, then I lose the rye entirely. Brown sugar, pumpernickle (oops, the rye’s back). Really mellow brew, not too rye forward. Nice stuff.

Bottle acquired in trade with Ernest (thanks!). Poured a dark, hazy brown color with a large tan head. When I popped the cork, some foam kept coming out (l wouldn’t categorize it as a gusher though). Aromas of brown sugar, bread, with rye lurking in the background. Tastes of nuts, toffee, brown sugar and bread. Lightly sweet.

Poured a hazy brown color with a large, off white, head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, and a doughy, dry rye as well. Taste of nuts, caramel, and toasted dough.

750 ml bottle. This was a pain in the ass to open, with two cages. Upon opening, a loud pop and a gush let me know why it took so much to keep this stuff in place. Wildy carbonated, when it settles you see some amber color and a dense, thick head. Aroma is mostly roasted grains and nuts. The taste is dried fruits, sweet caramel and toffee and butterscotch. Silky smooth mouthfeel.

Thick Red/Orange Coloring with Huge Frothy Head. Rye Aroma. Good Hit of Rye Right off the Bat, Followed by a Spicy/Peppery Crest Ending Dry with a Rye Aftertaste. Pretty Solid Brew.

Murky mud-like color with a large head. Bread and rye in the aroma, but not a real standout knock of either. Tame flavor of both with some wood at the end. Earthy. Not a bad brew at all.

Big head, good retention. Dark, glowing brown. Dry rye aroma. Big bitterness and rye taste up front, fades to a dryer bitterness and some sweetness. Long finish. Medium body. Very strange beer, not sure I like it much.
