Malty nose and flavor. Crisp and dry yet spicily hopped , mildly oily. Not that bad to say the least. Not that great either. robforbes (1105), Bremerton, Washington, USA

smell is sweet malts, nuts, some hops, caramel, spice hiding in the background.
taste is creamy, with hops, sweetness of caramel or brown sugar, definite malt flavor, leaves the mouth on the oily side.
overall nice well balanced beer that becomes more bitter you drink. RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA

Pours a nice medium amber with a very apparent head that remains at about a fingers thickness. Smells of floral and grain. I definately second the "Bready" smell that eboats found (Even doughy). Reminds me of the brewhouse back at Flossmoor Station. No surprise, the taste is very malty. Finish is hoppy, although not fiercely so and the malty and caramel flavors remain on the finish and even dominate. Head clings to the glass but definately dissipates obviously. Not what I was looking for (More hops, please!) but a fairly balanced brew. eboats (901), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 11, 2007 Bottled. Pours amber with a dirty white head. Aroma is a very pleasant citrus hop aroma, mostly grapefruit with some spices. Flavor was slightly hoppy citrus fruit, crisp, and breaded malt. The bread was very prominent in the flavor while the hops were in the aroma. Superbly balanced brew. LinusStick (1852), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 11, 2007 A fairly standard ESB. Aroma was light...hints of caramel malt. Pour was a light copper with a thin white ring for a head. Taste was very malty and thin..caramel and pale malts with just a hint of hops in the aftertaste after the swallow. Not very strong in any category. adoland (1), Reston, Virginia, USA does not count | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 10, 2007 Pint at Pickels Pub in Emmaus, PA - delightful alternative to IPA.
