Commercial Description:
Sawtooth Ale is an English style Extra Special Bitter. It is an extremely well balanced beer, with significant hop character, medium body, and a maltiness which increases in evidence as the beer warms to its "proper" drinking temperature. . The water used is quite hard, bringing it to near Burton on Trent levels, keeping it true to the style. This gives it the appropriate character and improves the malt extract significantly.

My Left Hand Sawtooth Ale pours a clear amber with a nice layer of foam on top. It eventually fades to a thick ring which leaves lace around the sides of my glass as I drink. Malts, caramel, and apples greet me in the nose. I take a sip. Lightly viscous with a sweet, malty, caramel palate. A bit of dryness on the top of my tongue that lingers with some bitter citrus rind in the back. It is faint though, like an afterthought to make you stop and think about all that you taste. I almost get a buttery essence in the body of Sawtooth, smooth and creamy and lightly viscous as it fills my mouth and goes down. Malt sweetness and caramel apples still fill the palate, while the dry citrus zing follows right behind. As she warms, the flavors mellow a bit into a smoother, yet still flavorful, palate. A little bit of chocolate is coming out to play amidst the malt profile, making for a very enjoyable addition to Sawtooth’s finish.
An impressive ESB from Left Hand, Sawtooth Ale is truly delicious. She may not be the best, but she is good where it counts. Truly, ESBs don’t get the love and attention they deserve.

Copper appearance with a minimal head. Not very aromatic. The flavor is a pleasant mix of malts and hops Initially, the hops prevail. As the beer warms, the flavor becomes maltier.

Poured a clear light amber with a large lasting ivory head. Aromas of graininess, carmel and light hints of citrus. Palate waslight bodied and crisp. Flavors of grain, light carmel and a bit of citrus with a lingering lightly bitter finish.

This bottle is from August 1, 2007 saved it to rate it, the others I thought were very good and deserved a higher rating. Gave a couple away because I thought they were good enough. The aroma is hops, citrus/pine. The head is white, big with excellent lacing. The color is copper and clear. The initial flavor is light bitter, citrus/pine flavor. The body is light and the texture creamy and a little watery.
