Slightly hazy deep ruby color, steady creamy beige head. Malty smokeyness in the nose, also hints of rubber gloves and banana. Fizzy carbonation. Strong flavor of smoke and tar, under that caramelly maltyness is the most evident flavor. In the finish there is breadyness, hops and alcohol. Good beer, but a bit too much carbonation - not so rounded than eg. Schenkerla. But if you like smoke - you’ll get it! pantanap (1363), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 22, 2008 75 cl corked bottle Darj reddish brown/amber colour with a slight haze. Dense head. Aroma is berries and smoked malt. Sweet flavour with notes of black currant, toffee and bacon. The smoke is there but not in your face; very balanced and very quaff able. And the taste of alcohol is nowhere to be found. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 18, 2008 Bottle. A amber beer with a big off-white head. The aroma and taste is of corn, gras and smoke. Medium body with a sweet smoke finish. A bit to much smoke my taste. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2008 750, corked and bailed. Pours clear orange amber with a huge, lacy pale yellow head. Lots of smoke in the aroma with some malt to prop it up. Sort of like maple syrup-soaked bacon. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Taste of brown sugar and turkey jerky, but without the salt that jerky has. Just a little hoppy influence on the exit, amid the wave of smoke. The flavor and aroma element of smoke are easy to pick up, but not overwhelming. Everything comes together nicely. Braudog (3773), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Caged and corked bottle. Cool label. This pours with an emphatic tp of rocky foam. The aroma is sugary sweet at first ... but the more you contemplate, a slightly Bambergian whiff begins to show itself. The rosy-brown beer begs me to dive in. Right away, a classic smoked character raises itself to the top of the heap. Beneath is a interestingly sweet malty brew. Quite delicious. (#3347, 3/16/2008)
