Left Hand Smoked Goosinator Doppelbock

I know that smoked beers are considered an acquired taste, but having liked every smoky beer ever sampled, I have always wondered why more brewers don’t experiment along that line. Smoked Goosinator came in a standard Left Hand silk screened brown bomber with a cork and wire cage. The cork was pretty tightly sealed and took a lot of pulling force, but my trusty corkscrew extracted it squeaky clean. The beer looked like a typical Dopplebock in the flute glass I had chosen. The body was red to brown, clear and, quite still. The head was nicely proportioned at two fingers thick. The smell was clearly smoky, with some chocolate apparent as well. The taste followed along the lines of the smell, with smoked meat, roasted cherries, and caramelized sugar quite apparent. Some maple syrup like notes were noticeable as well. It was a little thinner in the moth than I would have preferred, but not much to complain about it there either. Just a good smoky treat all around.

(bottle) Pours out a light cloudy brown with an off-white head. Aroma is reminiscent of smoked meat or gouda, and also I smelled some sweet corn which was a bit unappealing. The taste was smoky as well, with some light caramel appearing, and a decent smokiness lingered on the finish. This was a decent beer.

75 cl bottle. Nice amber color, big creamy offwhite head. Malty, smoky aromam toffee, vanilla notes, butterscotch, smoked fish, a bit sweetish. Malty, smoky flavor, caramel, a lil bitter, roasted, some smoked fish, toffee notes. Rather mild smoky finish with bitter notes.

Bottled. Deep amber colour, beige heaqd. Aroma is smoked, malty and mildly hoppy. Flavour is sweet malts, some wet and smoked/burnt wooden notes. A rather mild smoked beer.

Poured a hazed ruby-copper color with an off-white head. Smoky and doughy aroma. Decent smoke in the flavor. Nice and smooth. Some fruitiness pokes through. Light to moderate amount of malt. Medium bodied.

Aroma is a smoky oak scent. Color is a deep hazy orange amber with very good carbonation and a full tan head that is a bit loose. Taste is smoky and sweet. It starts with a medium body that goes down with a fizzy feel. Finish comes in sweet with a caramel like malt flavor that is followed by a smoky taste and ends with a faint bitterness. Smokiness dominates the aftertaste finishing out a bit dry. This is an great and complex brew I would happily drink it again.

Bottled, thanks ante! Cloudy dark amber, small off-white head. Intense beechwood smokey nose. Medium sweet and full bodied. Powerful caramelly malt with medium intesnity bacony smokiness. A well made beer that delivers exactly what i expect from it.

Bottled. Aroma of smoked meat and maltiness. Cloudy, brown coloured with an off-white head. Taste is sweet malty with smoked meat, raisins and caramel. Reasonable balanced but a little too sweet.
