When I opened my bottle, it popped and fizzed like New Year’s champagne, so be careful and have a nice big thirsty towel ready! Aroma is rich and malty with a strong hoppy undertone and hints of spice and fruit. It pours a delicious-looking, cloudy mahogany with a thick, buff-colored head that is fairly persistent. Flavor is rich and mouth filling - mainly malty, with a hint of hops, some smokiness, a touch of caramel, a little sweetness and a little bitterness. Texture is lively and sassy. Give ’em a (left) hand!

Split 750 ml in pint glass. Amber with lasting dense beige head and lotsa lace. Smoky, earthy sweet aroma. Smoky caramel brown sugar sweetness, mild grassy earthiness. Very smooth finish. Lasting smokiness. Very drinkable, but also quite smoky and strong. Medium body and bottle-conditioned medium low carbo make for great mouthfeel. Slightly lighter body than Schlenkerla Urbock. I’m a big fan of this. Excellent+.

Big coarseish beige head. Deep dark red-brown body with vigourous carbonation. Deep wooden smoky meaty aroma with malty notes. Sweet malty smoky wooden taste with tobaccoish meaty notes. Sharpish. Very good! (0.75l bottle, Systembolaget, Göteborg.)

Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse - 750 aged, corked bottle. Pours a medium copper, slightly murky, brief off-white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of smoked meat and beef jerky and sweet bar-b-q sauce. Flavor is along the same lines with some smoked salmon, hickory bar-b-q sauce and smoked meat. As is the case of most smokes - the smoke flavor overpowers any other flavor that is trying to be delivered. Sweet, but not quite to the edge of cloying. Thickish mouthfeel - overall decent for a style I am still trying to appreciate more.

Bottle from Westpark in Richmond. Pours a hazy dark orangewith a medium head. Odd aroma of stone fruits and smoke. Taste has way too much smoke for my taste. Also tastes of stone fruit and banana. A little on the thin side.
