Aroma is rich and malty with a strong hoppy undertone and hints of spice and fruit. It pours a delicious-looking, cloudy mahogany with a thick, buff-colored head that is fairly persistent. Flavor is rich and mouth filling - mainly malty, with a hint of hops, some smokiness, a touch of caramel, a little sweetness and a little bitterness. Texture is lively and sassy. Smoky, earthy sweet aroma. Smoky caramel brown sugar sweetness, mild grassy earthiness. Very smooth finish. Lasting smokiness. Very drinkable, but also quite smoky and strong. Medium body and bottle-conditioned medium low carbo make for great mouthfeel. Slightly lighter body than Schlenkerla Urbock. I’m a big fan of this. Excellent+. mribm (419), Hurley, New York, USA

Smokey, sweet and chewy, pretty much sums it up. Oh, it also had this big, frothy head which started off all of the goodness that was to follow. I gave up smoking cigarettes years ago, however I somehow feel that I’ve just cheated, due to the heavy smokiness of this beer. I liked it a lot and would buy it again. rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2008 I know that smoked beers are considered an acquired taste, but having liked every smoky beer ever sampled, I have always wondered why more brewers don’t experiment along that line. Smoked Goosinator came in a standard Left Hand silk screened brown bomber with a cork and wire cage. The cork was pretty tightly sealed and took a lot of pulling force, but my trusty corkscrew extracted it squeaky clean. The beer looked like a typical Dopplebock in the flute glass I had chosen. The body was red to brown, clear and, quite still. The head was nicely proportioned at two fingers thick. The smell was clearly smoky, with some chocolate apparent as well. The taste followed along the lines of the smell, with smoked meat, roasted cherries, and caramelized sugar quite apparent. Some maple syrup like notes were noticeable as well. It was a little thinner in the moth than I would have preferred, but not much to complain about it there either. Just a good smoky treat all around. bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark

Quite well balanced with notes of caramel, bread, citrus, hay and also has a hint of smoke. Very nice. tupalev (2618), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 11, 2008 Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Jerc, GregClow, and Blankboy, courtesy of Blankboy. Aroma of an old campfire - lovely stuff. Nice dark brown, small white head - looks great. Taste is that of a really solid sweet Doppelbock with a perfect amount of rich and satisfying smoke added to it. Easily one of the best smoked beers I have ever add, mainly because of its integration into an otherwise already solid beer. Fantastic. Dickinsonbeer (3500), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Wooo yeah!! THanks Hophead75 for bringing this great smoked beer. Damn this was nice and smokey. Pours a nice deep woody brown, deep amber, with a fluffy tight off beige head- sticky and good lace. Aroma is tons of bamberg- weyerban rauchmalt- just tons of beechwood smokiness- light campfire and lots of smoked meats and smoked salmon. Flavor is light sweet malts with some toastiness and tons more smoke with a clean smooth finish. This was almost as good as Schlenkerla!
