apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Dec 7, 2007 Dark coppery - clearly filtered. Some bubbles. Smokey aroma, but it seems a little artificial to me. Slightly sweet aroma. Slghtly sweet maltiness in the flavor. It is a little odd with the smokiness.
maeib (3961), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Sep 5, 2008 Bottled. Thanks to Mes for fetching this from Utobeer. A dark amber coloured beer with a thin off-white head. Smokier than I imagined in the mouth, especially after the less than convincing nose. A sweet smoky strong lager with some authentic German influences and a less than usual hop level for an American beer. A nice sippable beer. NachlamSie (1358), Tennessee, USA Sep 3, 2008 750ml. Pours a very cloudy mahogany with a good head. There is an adequate amount of smoked meat in the nose, I suppose. There seems to be one little astringent aroma, not sure what it is. The palate is pretty slick. The doppelbock sweetness is pulled off well here. It’s fruity, sugary, but not gummy. dry leaves and a fair amount of smoke round out the flavor. This needs more smoke. With more standout meaty notes, this could be classic. The combination of flavors works well, but the fruity and juicy notes seem to be just as apparent as the smoked meat character. This is a good drink, but not worth the price tag in my opinion. andreshultz (1), , North Carolina, USA does not count Sep 2, 2008 This beer was delicious with a great smoky flavor and an excellently pleasing finish. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves smoky beers. It’s my favorite! ucusty (1077), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2008 hazy amber pour, light brown head, and significant spotty lace. Metallic smoke aroma. Caramel, hops, and smoke. Yeasty finish Radek Kliber (3315), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 12, 2008 Corked Bottle 650 ml 2007
Appearance: Slight haze on amber with hint of pink ruby. Large light brown, creamy with light rocks head. Nose: Ahh. Medium smoky front with aromatic mineral and citric hop, beneath filling sweet malt. Candy raspberry behind. 8- Flavor/Palate : Medium frontal body with much fuller middle and oily finish. True heavy body of classic doppel bock smoked a la Bamberg. Beech wood pits. Fruity berry with metallic leafy hops just add extra American twist. Clean smooth warmth wrapping this marvelous creation.
