The beer has great malt build and the dark grains where toasted with the right amount of added peat. A super beer. emacgee (1892), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2009 2008. Pours a nice thick dark black that allows some light. Head is two fingers, dark mocha. The nose has an upfront smoke character, more of a sweet smoke than a meaty one. Some coffee and chocolate, a little roasty. Nice pungent nose with a good smoke balance. Flavor is a bit of a stepdown. Smoke character is there in balance. Base porter seems strong, very robust. The bitterness from the grains and hops seems to detract. Some coffee and bakers chocolate. Flavor has a nice thick consistency with a filling carbonation, bitter/astringent feel from the grains. Alcohol well hidden throughout. Definitely tasty but not the best. aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA

Head is long lasting, and leaves behind some great lacing. Aromas of smoke, smoked meat, pork, bacon, caramel, liquid smoke and some roasted malts. Flavors are exactly the same, this is a meal in a bottle. A nice semi sweet entry with a bitter finish. Full bodied and good. wxman (588), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 12, 2009 Pours a dark opaque brown with a thick rich light chocolate head. Delicious smokey aroma along with notes of toasted malt. Smooth creamy rich flavor of chocolate, espresso and caramel. Very little bitterness; definitely in the porter style verses that of a stout. Alcohol is well muted. carruthm (1165), Seattle, Washington, USA

Dark as night. Smoky as a campfire. Warming, velvety, hints of chocolate and toffee. This is Absolutely Outstanding! An awesome beer, complex and round; fully worthy of a large extent of praise!

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 11, 2009 On tap at The Stable. A beautiful black pour with a big thick frothy head. Smoke was in the aroma along with chocolate and coffee. Flavor is the same with coffee and chocolate dominating. These flavors seemed to alternate with each sip and smoke was a steady undertone. Alcohol was not really tasted but felt. A wonderful beer from first sip to the bottom of the glass. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Updated: Jan 10, 2009bomber. no light is allowed to pass through this solid black brew. a smallish khaki colored head recedes leaving some thick lacing. mostly smokey char on the nose. some dark malts and tar also appear alongside a hint of tobacco. layers of smoke are well balanced by roasty malt and a fine amount of bitterness. dark chocolate and vanilla fudge hide behind charcoal then reappear on the finish. the palate is thick and sappy, perhaps a little too heavy.. as i have noticed with other rauchbiers, it takes a few sips to notice anything other than the smoke. Hiden underneath is a rich, well structured delight that should be served closer to warm to enjoy all the flavors. fans of this should seek out o’fallon brewery’s smoked porter.
