Commercial Description:
If you've been reading our newsletters, brewer Ro Guenzel gave you a flavor last month of what it took to brew this smoked Imperial Porter (singed hair, smoke in the eyes, sunburn, etc.) - all a labor of love. Available in beautiful 750mL bottles. The National Smokejumpers Association has made Smokejumper the "Official Beer" of their organization. So, here's the smoke in your glass, not in the woods.

Editor's note: this beer is described as 9.2% on the brewery website, but there are two sets of bottles on the market, labeled as both 9.2% and 10.5%. Left Hand has since had this beer lab-tested; the correct amount is actually 9.8%.

On tap at The Stable. A beautiful black pour with a big thick frothy head. Smoke was in the aroma along with chocolate and coffee. Flavor is the same with coffee and chocolate dominating. These flavors seemed to alternate with each sip and smoke was a steady undertone. Alcohol was not really tasted but felt. A wonderful beer from first sip to the bottom of the glass.

bomber. no light is allowed to pass through this solid black brew. a smallish khaki colored head recedes leaving some thick lacing. mostly smokey char on the nose. some dark malts and tar also appear alongside a hint of tobacco. layers of smoke are well balanced by roasty malt and a fine amount of bitterness. dark chocolate and vanilla fudge hide behind charcoal then reappear on the finish. the palate is thick and sappy, perhaps a little too heavy.. as i have noticed with other rauchbiers, it takes a few sips to notice anything other than the smoke. Hiden underneath is a rich, well structured delight that should be served closer to warm to enjoy all the flavors. fans of this should seek out o’fallon brewery’s smoked porter.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a frothy medium sized head. Smoked meats and roasted barley with a hint of sweetness in the nose. Flavors of barbeque meats, dark roasted coffee, hops, and smoke with a touch of molasses. Very smooth for a smoke beer, excellent balance and very enjoyable. Would be an excellent introduction for someone who has never had a rauchbier. Good stuff.

Draft at Jerry’s. Black with big, foamy chocolate shake head / Nose of roast barley, chocolate and smoke / Medium to full body, good balance of malt and hops, with long, dry finish / Flavors of bittersweet chocolate, dark roast coffee, salami, and smoke, with some citrus notes / The complexity and balance supported by the subtle use of smoke make this the best smoked beer I’ve ever had, but then I find most Rauchbiers overbearing and dreadful.

Bomber brought back from the desert by footbalm, thanks man. Pours a dark brown color with a nice medium light brown head. The aroma is powerful; smoked beef jerky, some earth and caramel. The flavor was initially simply smoke, and tons of it, meaty and awesome. As you get used to the smoke a strong caramel and earthy malt kicks in, there is even some light hops in the finish. However, in the end, this tastes like smoked meat, and I love me some nice smoked jerky! Excellent.

Pours an oily black colour with an epicly dense tan head that never fades and clings to the glass. The nose is dustly, medium smokey, and meaty with sweet roasted malts. As far as the taste, whew! This is the smokiest beer I’ve come across. I mean campfire smokey. There are some piney, citric hops, beef jerky, malt sweetness, corn syrup and some dark, dried fruits. The palate is silky smooth, full-bodied and and long lasting. EPIC

Dark brown pour with thick chestnut colored head and honey comb lace. Smoked sausage aroma. Medium bodied. Caramel, roast, coffee, and smoke. Twist of hops on a dry finish. This has to be the best beer made by LH

Tap OTH. Pours blakc brown with brown head. Aroma is very smokey, bacon like smoked pork. with a faint roasted coffee, caramel malts. Taste is once gain loaded with smoke, light malts. Overall mouthfeel is smokey followed by a near dark fruit palate. With gained ambient temperature, the malts became more prominent while smoke was attenuated. Overall finish has some light hops with present caramel malts and warming abv. A lightly higher version of the smoked Goosinator.
